Watch those Re-Tweet comments

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Land Exchange Ltd., Brokerage

I've learned real quick to watch those re-tweet comments.  In my profession as a real estate agent, getting yourself noticed is part of the job.  You have to advertise in the local paper, create a website, create social media profiles, hand out business cards to everyone you meet, advertise, advertise, advertise, oh, and maintain a positive image.  I was doing my best at these while raising a family until someone decided to comment on a "retweet" of mine.

Our company published an article on the positive outlook of the Canadian Housing Market.  That sounded great to me!  I'm new at this whole Twitter thing, so the easiest thing to do was click "retweet"!  Great!  Done!  That was easy!

The next morning I receive a call from my broker, who is at a brokers meeting and has colleagues approaching her asking why one of her sales people has negative comments to post on Twitter.  When I first heard this I thought, "wait, I can't repost (retweet) this article, sorry."  Then I hear that the comment read "what junk, lol" with my name next to it.  So I quickly logged in, called my son (our children no more then we do on all this), and tried to figure out what was going on.  To make a long story short as I am not much of a writer, some city fellow found this article through my Twitter post, which was only my 4th post, read the article, and wanting to contribute to society, left a negative comment.  WELL...that gets posted on my account, as well as, our public company profile with this other persons name and mine right next to it.  I see what others would be thinking right about now, why did Paul approve this comment?  Two different people approached my broker about this. How many more didn't say anything but put me as a negative person?  The damage is done, I have to keep being positive.

Funny enough, looking back for it now, I can't find the comment.  That's how lost I am with all of this, and it happened yesterday.  So watch those Re-Tweet comments, because your name follows the comments.  As far as I can tell, you can delete a "re-tweet", but the comment remain behind.  You can't do anything about it.  I've since blocked this person and replied to his comment which has helped me a little.  So please watch those re-tweet comments, I know I will!
