Great localism post! Sounds like this could be a lot of fun.
Great cause! Thanks for promoting on Active Rain - If I can bear to shop that weekend, I'll do it. After working retail in college I tend to avoid Black Friday and the surrounding weekend like the plague! Either way though I plan to shop local for the holidays!
Awesome localism! Good information and video. Happy shopping my friend!
Joan, you're so wonderful to have shared this. I have to admit, "big box" has its place but I'm kinda sick of them. I love table settings and I used to shop the major dept. stores and one of two things would happen. Either they all had the same thing or they had discount crap that looked like it came from the dollar store, not what I want on my dining table for a family celebration. Then I found TJ Maxx. OMG I love it! They opened Home Goods which is a bigger version that focuses on none other than, home goods, which offers much more variety.
But my favorite is to shop at the local boutique stores, like in Fredericksburg, a small German town dotted with boutiques about an hour from here. I'll tell my husband that to be a good citizen that we need to go spend some money on boutique shopping this weekend!
Joan,
Camas is mainly small boutique businesses, but our suburbs are filled with box stores. I do sometimes visit a few of them, but generally prefer to frequent the small shops with unique items. If you love a little store, visit it often to help keep it open.
Good promotional blog and reminder Joan. D :)
Hi Joan, We agree...supporting our local businesses is a great way to help fuel the local economy ~ Nice job Denver!
Hi Joan. It is so important to support our local businesses and help them succeed in these tough times. And November 26th is my favorite day of the year.
Woo Hoo! A great event! Will re-blog this later this week! Thanks, Joan!!
I love this Joan and we should all support our local shops. I live in a charming town and that's where I do a lot of my shopping - our local pharmacy, dry cleaners, nail salon, hardware, bath and tile store, ect - love the hometown feel and knowing all the local merchants!
Joan, this is awesome! I'm re-blogging this for sure and will definitely go out and shop locally on the 26th.
This is very cool, I hope you get to meet some great local business owner and let them know that you are endorsing others to shop locally as well.
I love it Joan! This is a great way to support your local small business merchants.
Hi Joan,
Wow, what a great idea, I've not heard of this before, good to hear AE is doing this. I'm one of those who loves to shop local myself.
Joan, I had no idea of this Saturday promo...i truly believe we will make it out of the recession with the strength of supporting small businesses- I am a true believer & supported of the local small store.
Joan, good to see the change in shopping - locally, when I was young I have been taught to buy local to support the local businesses and have a strong community.
Hi Joan-all for this! This is why I also work for a locally owned boutique real estate operation:)
Hi Joan,
What a great initiative! Especially in the current economic climate, small local business need the support of the community (unless everyone simply wants WalMart and Target as their only options someday).
Lisa
Good for you, Joan, for getting the word out. Local businesses put so much back into the local economy and it's good to support them.
Great post, Joan. I am all supporting our local businesses. I spent $1k last week at my mechanic and having an drip irrigation system put in. I count that as my Saturday shopping since I don't really go and fight with the crowd.
Hope everyone supported their local small businesses and helped them STAY IN BUSINESS!
