Lion in the Autumn Sun - Roy and Dolores Kelley Photographs 11/16/11

Sunday was a beautiful day in Maryland so Dolores and I drove into Washington, DC to the National Zoo to enjoy the exhibits and take a few photographs.  The National Zoo is about 21 miles from our home in the Kentlands area of Gaithersburg.  Well, you can't go to the zoo without seeking out the lions.  The were enjoying the unusually mild November weather.

Normally, we photograph flowers.  So, it was fun to focus on the animals for the afternoon.  We highly recommend a visit to the National Zoo when you are in the area. The admission is free but there is a fee for parking.

Did the lion roar when you were there? He looks like he might be in the last post.  I am torn between the lion and the Siberian tigers to which one is my favorite, great shots as always.

What a perfect shot... it could totally be in a book. My favorite zoo photo that I have taken isn't digital and I haven't scanned it to share here. It is Mel and our youngest son, Sam (when he was 3) feeding a giraffe. The giraffe's tongue was extended about six inches to scoop the food from Mel's hand which was inches from Sam's face.
