Thank you all for your good wishes to son Henry who is in West Africa shooting a documentary on the national Liberian Amputee Soccer Team, the LONE STARS, currently Africa’s reigning champs. (More below)
It is the story of redefining championship, demonstrating how reconciliation can begin with the game of soccer. their project following the lives of 5 remarkable young men, either victims of the horrible atrocities or recruited and brain washed to be “boy soldiers.”
Henry and producers Evan Neuwirth and Aubrey Lethbridge stayed out of harm’s way during the recent Liberian election riots and landed successfully in Accra, Ghana where they are shooting the 2011 Cup of African Nations for Amputee Football (CANAF)
Evan is writing a blog http://oneleggedstars.tumblr.com/ of their adventures. There are recent photos of the gift of more than 30 soccer cleats and a full Liberian kit, complete with Lone Star flag, both away and home colors. and courtesy of Philadelphia Union MLS team and Boathouse Sports.
Kudos to Sara Gillespsie's leadership in making that possible.
Truly an experience of a lifetime that will change the world perspectives of these three young men, their dream is to create a documentary worth seeing with profits given back to the team members, who off the field must beg to keep body together.
