When Jeff Turner first introduced Twitter to the ActiveRain community, he said "it has already provided value and a way to connect with people and ideas I certainly would not have otherwise," but ended his post with "Can I guarantee you'll get it? No. I'm not sure I do. :)" And at that point, I didn't get it.
Andy Kaufman wrote about the "real estate digerati" starting to adopt Twitter, and even included an easy step-by-step guide to getting started. Jonathan Washburn followed with an intriguing idea to use Twitter within a real estate office and feed the communications to your blog.
But even with all of that great information, I still didn't see how I could effectively apply Twitter to my real estate business. Part of the problem was that I was thinking of it as it applied to ActiveRain, other agents on my team, or my peer group.
It's funny how sometimes the blogosphere can help us tie ideas together. Just yesterday I posted on Connecting with Generation X. That demographic prefers email and text to phone calls, and expects responses in minutes, not hours. Then today I found an illuminating post from Daniel Rothamel at AgentGenius that is part of his series on Social Media for Real Estate. The topic: Twitter. Now that I've been thinking more about how to reach the Gen X and Gen Y market, Twitter makes perfect sense.
Rothamel expands on the original "what are you doing?" concept of Twitter and suggests three great uses for real estate: an educational resource; a networking resource; and a way to communicate with your clients. Included in the post are tips to get started as well as some great info on Twitter apps.
