As a Realtor serving Ham Lake and the surrounding area of Anoka County, I see some clients in a cleaning panic prior to a move. They will often get a dumpster to do a mass clean up of the inside and outside of their home. With a little planning, many items could be recycled or reused rather than sent to a landfill.

If you are considering a spring move, get your hands on the Recyclopedia for ways to reuse and recycle your unwanted items. Anoka County resident? Order your FREE Copy here. Remember your trash could be someone else's treasure.

Hi Teri,

What a beautiful photo in this post! You've provided some great information here for the fine folks of Anoka County. A question, is the recyclopedia something specifically for MN?

That picture is so clear, colorful and vivid! Wonder if we have some kind of booklet like that. Great info for the county!

Teri, thanks for sharing that information, it is true someone's junk is another man's treasure. I'm sure I will learn somethings I hadn't thought of.

Lynda--That is a photo of the park area behind Ham Lake City Hall. There is a walk bridge over the pond, a playground, picnic area and baseball fields.

This guide is specific to Anoka County with the interior green pages in the center specific to Ham Lake's recycling program. But the were not the first to put together. Here's a quoting from the front of the guide:

"The recyclopedia concept was initially developed by the City of Milwaukee and is now used by many cities throughout the metropolitan area."

I was a bit confused as Milwaukee is in Wisconsin and not part of our metro area. It could be regional but the concept is used in other cities and states.

"Cleaning Panic"  - excellent descriptor.  This A to Z guide for Ham Lake is a great idea.

Sally--It was a beautiful fall day full of color...The leaves are all on the ground now. Nothing left up the raking! The Recyclopedia is a great guide...I am impressed and will keep it around as people are always asking about phone numbers as to where to donate, etc.

Susie--Anoka County has some great online publications to teach people about recycling. I thought the 10 Myths would be interesting to all.

Steve--Have you seen the "cleaning panic" syndrome? Some of the things people put in a dumpster a week before moving is amazing and sad really. But it has to be done and if you don't know that there are resources out there to get rid of it, what else can you do? Nice to have a resource guide for recycling here.

Teri, What a great resource. I had no idea there was such a thing as recycling myth!!!

Teri, This is wonderful information and I'm sorry they don't have that available in all areas.  I've got things I know can be recycled and aren't sure what to do with them, it would be nice to have one resource to find out how to dispose of them safely or if they can be recycled.

Teri, you always have such beautiful photos. What a great idea ..... a book to teach us how to recycle what and where.

Mana--If you read through them, there are some that you hear said everyday, like "one person cannot make a difference." Maybe not myths. But definitely misinformed.

Carole--I was very happy to receive a copy in the mail and will be using the information (and sharing) immediately as there are questions often asked by sellers as to where can I get rid of this etc. I wasn't aware of this until I received, so check with your county...maybe there is something similar.
