Building a Barn - Working Together - Friday Fotos

There is something so special about being inside a barn built more than 100 years ago. Just knowing that a whole community put their backs and hands to raising the barn together makes you realize the best way to accomplish a goal is to work together.

Cataloochee Valley Barn by Palmer House

My imagination goes wild when I think about everything that may have gone on inside the walls of this barn.  Then I think about the vast pasture outside this barn located in the Cataloochee Valley area of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Good morning Mona. I love this: wonderful picture and accompanying narrative. My mind always goes there: to the history of a place. On another front, check out my post yesterday, I mentioned you.    Sheila

Good Morning Mona,  The Amish in eastern Pennsylvania would all get together and have a barn built by all the neighbors and it would be finish so fast with no power tools.  I was always amaze how they would do this, but neighbors would help neighbors all the time.

Mona: the idea of a barnraising brings a smile to my face. We were all much better off when we lived in communities and helpded one another! Have a great weekend.

Great photo! You know that the stories would be fantastic if those walls could talk. Meanwhile you are only restricted by your imagination. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy your day!

Like Will above said, the first thing that came to mind was that barn raising is really big with the Amish. I've seen this demonstrated on t.v., after which they celebrate with a big shindig. Coming together makes easy work of something so big and complicated.

My imagination goes wild when I see a scene like that too Mona.  I was in Amish Lancaster County, PA, in 2008.  I would have loved to of watched a barn raising.  The closest I've seen to it, were a few scenes from the movie, "The Witness."

I love old barns and this is such a terrific, representative photo.  Those were great days, when a neighborhood worked together but these are great days too, when we can instantly communicate with each other over thousands of miles.  Life is good most any time!

I love the lines of this photo and I also love your comment about this barn's history. What this barn must have seen over the years!

Hi Sheila, there is something so intriguing about these old structures.  I feel it everytime I step inside.

Will, one day I would love to travel to eastern PA and see these fine communities based on brotherly love and helping each out.

Anne, you have a good weekend also.  Somehow I find it hard to believe that everyone's boat will float better until we can all work together.

Hi Wayne, I heard them whispering to me that day.

Hello Jill, like Will said...sometimes by working together these buildings would come together so fast...and that is without power tools.

Hi Myrl, I remember that movie and that scene.

Yes Marge, community is however we choose to form it.

Thanks Gretchen, I loved the geometry of it also.
