Van Meyers Jazz, Explorations in New Music

What has happened to America's original musical art form jazz? It seems it has become an antiquated museum piece securely placed under a glass case, ever-guarded by the Jazz Police, transformed from a vibrant, expressive art form into an object to be observed and dissected in universities ("Jazz Studies"), and barely acknowledged by a distracted American listening public. The be-bop championed by Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie and then developed by all the great musicians sonically immortalized on those 50s and 60s Blue Note, Verve, Impulse Prestige, etc. records surely deserves our continual respect, admiration and listening. However, consistently regurgitating the musical past is a form of artistic suicide. What to do?

The Van Myers Jazz Duo wishes to abandon the past and invite the listener and viewer into a musical world where artistic communication and the thrilling risk of blazing new musical ground is a never ending goal. Is it "jazz proper"? And where is the bass player? Does it really matter? Just dig the journey. . .

Americanistan, An Evening of Mideastern Music & Dance

Americanistan is dedicated to bringing you the very best of acoustic world music. If we can't all be transported to a time centuries ago, where we sang, played and danced around the fire after a hard day's travel thrugh the desert, at least we can do our best to recreate that experience in a way that is spiritually true to us all.

Our goal is to create exciting, dynamic, beautiful music for our audiences and for each dancer we play for. We strive to tailor the music to the dancer's preference, style, and skill. We pride ourselves on our reputation as the most "dancer-friendly" band ever.

Together, the music and the dance create a sacred space, which the audience can also enter to experience the joy of the ancient and living art of bellydance. Americanistan has been performing for over 16 years, in many different settings and from the West to the East Coast.

Dan Reynolds, Acoustic Fingerstyle Guitar

My dad taught me to play guitar when I was in the fourth grade. I've been playing off and on ever since (mostly on). During the college years I lived in Missoula, Montana and played with a great musician and friend, Geoff Peddicord under the name "Trout Farm." (we were both fly-fishing guides at the time). After college I moved back to Oregon where I have been an elementary school teacher for the last 16 years and currently teach. On the weekends and during the summer, I love getting to share my music.
