Motivational Power Quote

We Are a Creature of Habit

“Sow an act, and you reap a habit.

Sow a habit and you reap a character.

Sow a character, and you reap a destiny.”

George Dana Boardman, President of Colby College, Maine 1882-1889

As I see it . . . . . . .

We are a creature of habit

We sleep on the same side of the bed each night; we put our shoes on the same way every day.  You put you jacket the same way, you drink your coffee the same way.

We are a creature of habit.

Our business routines become a habit they are done without conscious thought. We go through our day on automatic pilot doing what we have also done and doing the things through-out our day the way that we have always done them.

Our habits have made us the person we are.

Our habits will bring us to a fork in the road.

If our habits have moved you in the direction of our goals and you are on target to achieve your goals your habits are supporting your success journey and may only need minor adjustments.

If our habits have taken your success journey off course you would have to take a hard look at your habits. It becomes important to identify what habits are supporting your success journey and what habits are derailing your success.

Continue the habits that are supporting you and make a list of the habits that are holding you back. Make a conscious effort to remove the habits that are hold you back.

To continue to repeat the habits that have taken you off track will give you at best more of the same results.

Take the habits that are not working for you and replace them with  new productive habits that will pull you in the direction of your goals.

We are a creature of habit, change your habits and you change the direction of your career path.

Once you pull back out of yourself and see the routine or rut we can slide in to because it is easy, comfortable and requires no thought, you can shake it up. Sit in a different place, table at rotary, church and meet new people. Shop cross town once in a while to bump in to different folks you don't see in the same old haunts. Stretch, grow and adopt like new routines, thoughts as the Maine college wise president of Colby suggests.

Very true. It all begins with a single act, repeated - for good or bad, a habit is formed!

Good morning Lou,

I just attended a wonderful seminar with Allen Tappe as the speaker. He touched on this topic in relation to changing our career path for 2012 by looking at our habits (all of them) and shedding those that are in direct competition of making us successful.

Yes, we are creatures of habit. For the most part, these habits are good. It take great commitment to change any habit.

It is most often easier to reinforce the good then focus on those bad habits from which it is difficult to escape. We keep trying! Enjoy your day!
