Special offer

Fridays in Downtown Bryan Tx

Having grown up in Bryan-College Station Texas I have seen a tremendous amount of re-vitalization in the downtown area of Bryan. Some of you out there can remember  a time when it truly was the only hot spot in town. Remember The Queen and Palace Theaters, Colson's Corner, Jarrot's, and the all time best hardware store in the world Central Texas?

Now as far as hot spots go today it may not be the only one, but the way things are headed it could be a big contender for the top rankings. My wife and I have been dining frequently on weekends there, but they now have this new thing one Friday a month where all these shops stay open.  There are lots of entertainers too.  This Friday we had  had a great time visiting with shop owners and had our portrait taken at Chandler Arden's new photography studio. They do great work!  Be sure to catch the next fun Friday night in down town. You won't regret it!

HI Trey, You KNOW I remember all the old places in downtown Bryan because I was born here and work for you now.  I remember Woolworths, Perry Brothers, Parker Astin Hardware, Jarrot's Pharmacy, The Queen Theater, The Palace Theater, Colson's Corner, Edges on the Corner, all the banks were on Main Street.  It was a thriving place.  Remember the old parking meters and the narrow road?

Every Saturday I looked forward to going downtown.   People were everywhere. It was a busy day.  My grandmother would go grocery shopping at the nearby Piggly Wiggly.  But first we'd go to Woolworths and Perry's so I could spend my twenty-five allowance on anything I wanted.  Oh was that fun!

Trey and I remember the good ole times in Downtown Bryan.

Kay,

Yep it was!  I can remember walking all the way to downtown one Saturday, barefooted on the asphalt to see the first James Bond Movie. . Anyway the theater didn't care if you were barefoot...bet they would kick me out now.  .  So we would go to a movie, then to Colson's Corner to buy the latest MAD Magazine, then to Jarrot's for a milkshake.....ah the good life.  Bet the whole afternoon was under 3 bucks.
