Does No News Mean Good News in Real Estate?

When I asked my seller clients how their purchase was going up north in Washington at our signing recently, they said that all was going good...they think. They went on to say that although the appointed relocation agent had a really great personality...he hadn't contacted them in over two weeks. Two weeks!

When they mentioned that they would like to have more contact (good for them for speaking up), he said "Hey, no news is good news" What?? Two weeks can be a lifetime when you're buying or selling a home!

There are reasons why many large companies now let you track your purchases. They've done studies that show that is eases anxiety. I recently just ordered the new I-phone and was told it would be 21 days to delivery. Oh...I can't tell you how I was disappointed that I had to wait, but then I started getting those e-mails telling me the status. In fact, they said 21 days, but according to my current e-mail, I should be getting it tomorrow before 3PM..so about 7 days. YES! I gotta say, just getting those updates made me feel better, made me see that although I still had to wait, progress was being made.

When buying or selling your home, one of the most important things is to go over how and how often you'll communicate. I know I personally minimally call my seller clients once a week to give updates along with e-mails..or texts if they prefer but often it's more. With buyers there is really a need for lots of communication. Often it's every day during the negotiating period, inspections etc.

If nothing is going on, it's always better to call and say this. No contact for two weeks only adds un-neaded stress in my book and clients tend to imagine the worst scenarios than the best. Just human nature.

I'm glad my clients mentioned to their other agent this as hopefully it was an eye opener for him. Good communication between the agent and the buyer or seller is crucial!

No, I don't think that no news means good news in real estate.
