A Thanksgiving Recipe from Tom Barrett (Positive Brain Food), that I'd like to share:
"Abandon any fantasy of perfection. The table needs to get set and the food needs to get cooked and served. But none need to be perfect. Let good be good enough.
Go with the flow. If you have young children and multiple guests, there will be chaos and commotion. (Especially if you have a guest like "Cousin Eddie" in the movie Christmas Vacation!) But a relaxed attitude makes it happy chaos and commotion, which can be fun.
Don't just set the table, set the tone. Determine to bring a light heart filled with love and laughter to the entire day. It will more than compensate for any moments that aren't perfect.
Don't just carve the turkey, carve out some time. The first Thanksgiving was marked by Pilgrims and Native Americans taking time to stop and give thanks. That's a great reminder for those of us who are ambitious and driven. We can be so focused on the future that we forget to stop and be grateful for what we already have in the present.
While carving out some time:
* Take a moment and look back. All of us have people in our lives that played a significant role in shaping who we are today. It might have been a school teacher, professor, athletic coach or a friend we have lost touch with. Indeed, it might be someone you have not spoken with in many years. Why not take 50 seconds and send them an email, text or better yet, call them... just to personally thank them for the way they blessed you in the past. (There is a reason for the proverb: Pleasant words are like honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.)"
