Hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving and made some ever lasting memories. As you get older I suppose you start to think of Thanksgivings past and present at least that is how I where I found myself yesterday, with the recent passing of my sister there was no pestering phone call of wants and needs and before anyone thinks I’m heartless, my sister and I were close and although she didn’t call for the first time in 6 years I thought she might be looking down and saying, so this is what he was doing all the times when I called. But it did happen to get my other sister to call who rarely ever calls so maybe that will be a forthcoming tradition. I thought of my Mom and brother who passed 6 and 8 years ago and how they all three are enjoying the greatest feast of all with the Lord and angels.
Yes, my memories of past Thanksgiving slowly fade, I come from a large family three sisters and 3 brothers but we always had plenty to eat any day or time of the year. No we may not have had what we wanted but plenty just the same, I knew we had plenty because when I ask for seconds Mom always said NO you have had plenty ( a little Turkey humor there).
Thanksgiving as a child meant no school and Dad would have us feed the animals, milk the Cows by 9am so we would be through, then we would sit around and listen to grown folks that came from far away with their families to enjoy Thanksgiving with us, again I think it was because we had plenty. They would bring their children, ball games would be played, horseback riding, a game of horse shoes, canoe rides and the older boys would sneak off and ride this big ole bull that should have killed us and Dad would have if he had found out.
There were no Black Fridays to fret over, no texting, Ipads, computer games, shoot there was only one TV set and that was reserved for an Uncle that had to watch the ball games (wow I wonder what he would think of the sports channel) no nothing to be in the way of enjoying company and family. We must have been really bored uh LOL.
No past memories may fade but it is how you remember them that makes them good or bad and I am lucky to have great ones that I can hang on too. Two of my daughters were not around yesterday and I think that was a first and I missed them dearing but I guess I may have to get used to it as they start families and memories of their own.
