Did you know that the Denver City and County building has approximately 585 led lightfixtures and more than 2,000 feet of led rope light?
Please join Kim Christiansen and Kirk Montgomery for this year's holidaylighting event in front of the city and county building on Friday, Nov. 25 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. between 13th and 14th and Bannock streets.
The night marks the official start of the holiday seasonwith a crowd countdown to Mayor Michael Hancock flipping the switch to turn on the lights for the first time.
We will have special performances by:
Mary Louise Lee ( Denver's First Lady)
John Common and Blinding Flashes of Light
The Silhouettes ( NBC's America's Got Talent)
The Excel Institute Special Chorale
All will be performing selections from "Opie Gone Christmas" The Charity CD available at King Soopers and iTunes.
Old St. Nick will be there for photo opportunities.
And, free candles will be passed out to the first 3,000 people.
In 2009, the city switched to LED lights. While using about half the fixtures from previous years, the city uses only about 1/3 of the energy.
If you cannot be there in person, you can watch a live broadcast of the lighting ceremony on 9NEWS starting at 6:30 p.m.
After Nov. 25, the lights turn on every night at 5:45 p.m. and are programmed to turn off at 10:45 p.m. through Jan. 24.
