Things to Do to Prepare for Winter and Save Money

Now is the time to prepare your home for winter. Did you know that getting your home ready for winter is also an eco-friendly thing to do? A tight house uses less energy and requires less natural resources.  Here are some things you can do to save money and stay warmer this winter:

Caulk around doors and windows

You can lose up to 30% of your home's energy efficiency through gaps around windows and doors. Fill all gaps and spaces with caulk.  Be more eco-friendly by using caulk that has a longer life expectancy, such as siliconized acrylic.

Replace Furnace Filter

Before the furnace starts working hard again, treat it to a new filter.  Consider a high-performance furnace filter, which does a better job of keeping indoor air clean and needs to be changed only once or twice a year.

Add Insulation

Keep warm air in and cold air out by adding insulation.  You will save money on heating bills and save the planet's resources.

Clean your gutters

Make sure your gutters and downspouts are in good condition and free flowing before autumn rains and winter snow comes. If you need new gutters, now is a good time to get them replaced.
