We Really DO Live Next to a Reindeer Farm!

Hi there Paul, that is a fantastic drive isn't it? I have driven the ALCAN highway 13 times with family. Talk about an adventure-the road is much better now than it was when I was a kid though. The homesteaders we know are just sweethearts and to think of what they lived through, with and without is fascinating.

Hi there Marie, that is exactly what I thought. He weighed a lot less than he looked too. Light as a little feather!

There were 2 other mommas there and they all had single births. This was the largest of the three (that is why I got to hold him). We can see them down the hill from our house and I could watch those cute little guys for hours!

Hi there Lisa, that would be fun to see too! Baby moose are just as cute as these little ones but I have not held one of those yet (and seriously not likely that I ever will).

Hi there Marge, SO incredibly cute! There are three and they are bigger now (this was taken in the spring). Isnt Comet cool too?

My cousin moved up here from Indiana and he was living with us initially. The first day he was here our neighbor walked Comet (the one with the big antlers) up to the house to say hello. Can you imagine what his face must have looked like when he answered the door to a man walking a reindeer on a leash?

Of course Larry and I went out to an appointment and were not here for this-otherwise there may be some photos at least of my cousins face. Dern missed photo op!

Hi there Chris Ann, they are just the sweetest things! The neighbors are great and let us show our visitors and family the farm.

It is kind of an oddity but there is a town called NORTH POLE in Alaska! :)

It is fun-the neighbors let us know each year when they are 'ready' for their debut. This was the first time I was able to hold one though. I wouldn't be able to hold him now but I will try and sneak down to the farm and get an updated pic of them (the video was from this spring).

Hey there Cheryl! This one is our neighbors farm-one of the few private ones around. They are just so neat to watch but you should have heard them in rut! My immediate gut reaction as a 'born and raised Alaskan' was BEAR in the woods. Then, a few seconds later I realized what the scoop was. Phew!

Hi there Debb, they are so much fun to be around. We saw another moose today just hanging out eating branches beside a home. The only time they bother me is when they try and have my lilacs, rhubarb or ornamental cherry tree. Then, we have issues. Where in Alaska did you grow up?

Hey there Debb, that is awesome-thank you very much! It has grown more than you can imagine for the little town I remember. My oldest brother is moving to Juneau next month (none of us have been there before) but the Wasilla and Palmer area are my home turf.

If you ever want to reminisce but do not want to pay for a flight, just let us know and we will take some pics for you.

Hi there Lynn, how fun! We used to see a lot more fox when I was little around here. With all the people now, we still see them but not as often. It makes for a really nice treat when we do see them though.

I would love to see the kits play though!
