Yesterday was a rare day. With the advent of a four day weekend I had a little spare time. I took a break from the routine and enjoyed a quiet day at home. I’m indulging me the artist and hanging out with my friends on the bookshelf and wandering from one genre of music to the next. There’s something about just after Thanksgiving. Perhaps it's the short lull before Christmas, winter, and the end of another year that puts me in this particular frame of mind.
Today the weather is calm. No rain or wind, just overcast. In the Pacific Northwest we’ve had a few autumn storms and I'm sure there’s more to come, but today mother nature is at rest and so am I. The brilliant colors of fall have faded and there are but few leaves of yellow and orange to highlight our surroundings. In fact my sense of space is altered when I look from my deck through mostly naked trees to the valley below.
The color palette is narrow, yet it’s an endless variation of muted grays, browns, and dark conifer greens. It reminds me of European pastoral paintings from the early 19th century.
Today was a grounding day. It wasn't about getting a lot done. There was no big agenda, no big goals or tasks to accomplish. It was a day to relax and enjoy a little reading, a little writing, looking through my photos and listening to music. Truly Awesome. In fact, it was awesomely awesome!
I hope you were able to relax and enjoy a little time for yourself this Thanksgiving weekend. Happy Holidays.
