Elkins' American Mountain Theater Opens 2011 Christmas Spectacular

We're going to do something a bit different tonight, a Local Event post that is NOT local to Warren County, not even local to Ohio, but when we experience a family friendly event that could use a little extra publicity, we're not going to let some measly state border get in the way!

Last night the Spear Family attended the American Mountain Theater's Christmas Spectacular opening night in Elkins West Virginia. Yes, we're out of town visiting family for Thanksgiving while Cujo and Big Al guard the homeplace (confirm this at your own risk!).

Where is Elkins West Virginia you might ask? Eastern West Virginia (we know that sounds like an oxymoron, but it is where it is!). Specifically it's at 49 Martin St, Elkins WV 26241 near the rail area.

American Mountain Theater is a new building, and specially outfitted for this family run business! Wide aisles, handicapped accessible, comfortable seats, CHEAP concessions and affordable entertainment for up to 527 visitors!

Now it's kind of hard to describe this show, not really blue grass, not really gospel, not really country, certainly not rock and roll (despite the Beatles impression!), but what it is IS a wholesome family show that you wouldn't be afraid to take your kids to or be embarrassed to be sitting next to your mom at! Self-described as Branson style family entertainment, this family performed show (and almost everyone on the stage IS related!) leaves you no doubt where their beliefs are regarding Christmas!

The Christmas Spectacular is a mix of comedy bits, serious songs, instrumentals and more. And these folks are VERY musically talented, with one of the performers using six different instruments (violin, cello, guitar, drums, keyboard and mandolin) at various times of the show.

Tickets can be purchased through the website, Adult tickets $23, Seniors (55+) $21, Kids (5-11) $13 for this two hour show (15 minute intermission included). You can also call the box office at 304.630.3040 or 800.943.3670.

Shows are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday-Saturdays and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sundays through December 18th. Based on the crowd last night we wouldn't recommend waiting long to get your seats reserved!

Kathy, When you read the story on their website, the family running the place feels it's God's calling for them to have this theater where they do. They love their music, because you've got folks working as loggers, CPAs and I don't know what else during the day, then putting on these well-done performances at night.

Yep, we're pretty comfortable with Cujo and Big Al holding down the fort. They've always kept things safe before when we went out of town for a few days :)

Ginny, Thanks for the thoughts and prayers for John. The chemo treatments are treating him well (fortunately he tolerates it better than most people).

And we know family friendly events are what many people want. Getting the kids away from some of today's "pop stars" and something more worthy isn't a bad thing at all.
