Doylestown 2007 Kids' Triathlon

The second annual Doylestown Kids' Triathlon was held on Sunday June 3, 2007. Over 160 young athletes participated in this year's race. The event is cosponsored by Doylestown Borough, Doylestown Township, Fanny Chapman Pool and Cycle Sports of Doylestown.

Participants range from 7 to 15 years of age. There are 3 separate races with age appropriate distances for the swim, bike and run. The athletes swam between 50 and 100 yards in the pool. Then they transitioned onto their bikes where they rode between 1.5 and 4.5 miles in Chapman Park and the roads of Doylestown Township. This was followed by a run of between .5 and 1.5 miles in Chapman Park and the Farm Complex across East Road. The course has been approved by USATriathlon.

"It was hard to beat the success of last year's race. In order to accommodate extra athletes this year we opened up a second pool. Special thanks to Mark Douple, Patrick Clark, Doylestown Borough and Township, Fanny Chapman, The Farm, Zaveta Construction and the 40+ volunteers that made the race happen", said Eric Cutting, who owns Cycle Sports of Doylestown.

Mark Douple, who is a Doylestown Borough Councilman and has been involved in youth sports for over 10 years stated, "It truly was a community event. The Borough Park crew had the park in great shape. The township police, including Chief White, not only helped with traffic control to insure that the course was safe for the racers, but also helped out encouraging the kids to do their best. The township helped out in preparing the course and giving technical support. The Fanny Chapman Pool Guards were great in covering both pools. Eric Cutting and his crew at Cycle Sports of Doylestown provided many hours of time in planning and running the event, including pre race inspections of the athletes' bikes and helmets.
