neutral carpet westchester county NYBy far, the vast majority of carpets selected for homes in Westchester are neutrals - beiges and taupes.  These are practical and neutral as they go with almost all furniture and give you flexibility with neutral beige carpet westchester NYpaint color as well as ability to change bedding, window treatments and pillows.  These colors also tend to hide dirt.  If you are in the process of selling you home (or you are considering selling in 2-3 years, neutrals are the way to go as this will appeal to the widest array of potential buyers.

Creams/off whites - work for upscale bedrooms where the homeowner tends to be neat and is less worried about dirt.  The lighter you go, the larger the space looks.  These colors are not usually practical for young kids or pets, or for rooms where you might bring food.  Try to remove shoes to prolong the color and life of your carpet, esp for light colors.  (Socks are actually better vs bare feet as the oils in our feet also tend to wear the carpet down.

soft plush carpet - westchester NY - grayGrays are almost the new black.  Grays have been in style for the last several years across many surfaces (including stainless steel appliances, hardwood (especially maple), tiles that look like metal, so it was only natural for them to spread to the carpet world these last couple of years.

Tone on tone patterned carpet - westchester NY - diamondsIf I had to pick a "color color," it would be green - this is the most neutral of the colors and can work well as a carpet or a paint color - usually it's a cool green w/ undertones of grays or beiges.   It's more often that customers are selecting greens w/ a tone on tone or as a runner.

Berber carpet for basement in Westchester NYLight colored berbers for basements and family rooms.  Berbers with flecked colors tend to hide the dirt.  Again, going neutral gives flexibility in paint colors and furniture.

What's out:

- Anything shag

- Pinks/Mauves

- Sea foam

- Bright green

- Oranges and mustards

Just showed your choice of favorite colors to my wife, Debbie ... and she just smiled.  It's the color of our walls in our main Great Room ... and close to the color in our bedroom.  VERY peaceful ... very serene ... and we love it.  Great choice!!  Thanks for passing the great tips along ...

Happy Holidays!

Great color advices for those weho are interested in getting the carpet for their home. Here in Manhattan New York, many owners opt for hardwood floor with some area rugs.

Gene  - Oh that is sooooo cool.

Eileen - Oh yes, most prefer hardwood here, too.  But, some condos/co-ops require carpet (or 80%) and many like carpet for the bedrooms - customers seem to be split on bedrooms.

Hmmm, I was surprised to hear about green.  I have a good friend who did a huge remodeling job to her ranch style home by popping the roof and adding a master bedroom and 5 piece bath.  The put in forest green carpeting throughout most of the house.   What do you think about that color green?

OMG, Donna welcome back!  How are you????

Forest green could work...but, it would not be my first choice, especially if it is going everywhere.  Some shades of green are somewhat stylish, but if it's the wrong green, it may be all wrong. Also, at some point, it may date the place.  Neutrals will never go out of style and give design flexibility for all the rooms.  Greens tend to work better in smaller doses.

A couple of years ago, I put in sage green carpet, and was amazed at how much calmer I felt in my home.  I wouldn't have believed that carpet color could set the mood as much as it has.

Well done Debbie. I like the color of green you feature, but I'm not sure green would work in many other shades...I like the response you gave Donna in #9. Green is actually my favorite color - but, it can be tough to use in the home as it conjurs up that old "avacado" green stage in decorating history. :)

Myrl - I'm so glad to hear that.  Yes, that color is very calming.  It's amazing.

Debb - Yes, you are so right...you have to find the right green for it to work.
