Live Radio Broadcast, composting and Master Gardening Class

Located in the northeast section of Seattle are the Maple Leaf-Pinehurst-Roosevelt-Victory Heights neighborhoods that all support the local Ace Hardwarestore. For good reasons the store is filled with helpful, friendly, knowledge staff and the relatively small store seems to always have what you’re looking for.

The E’s (education, entertainment, environment)

Last Saturday, November 19, Ace pulled out all the pre-Thanksgiving stops by offering locals the three-E’s; education, environmentally responsible products, and entertainment. KMTT The Mountain did a live broadcast, master gardeners from the WSU Extension were on hand to answer gardening and environmental stewardship questions, and another local business, Cedar Grove, rolled out their new kitchen compactor at an introductory price to all Ace shoppers.

The one day event took place Saturday from 10AM – 12 PM the beauty about events like this held at Ace is that most of the people show up on foot drinking lattes that they purchased from several different community coffee shops within the Maple Leaf neighborhood.

Maple Leaf is bordered on the south by the Roosevelt neighborhood; to the north by Pinehurst and Victory Heights neighborhoods of the Northgate district; to the east by the Lake City and Wedgwood neighborhoods; and to the west by the North College Park or Licton Springs neighborhood, map. (Seattle neighborhoods boundaries are informal).

Maple Leaf is home to approximately 20,000 residents, mostly residing in “classic Seattle boxes”, known locally as Seattle bungalows and Tudoresque style houses. Since 2000 the Maple Leaf area has been undergoing considerable renovation as smaller, older homes sitting on 1/8 acre lots are being bulldozed to make room for new high-end “Craftsman”-style homes and, especially along Roosevelt Way NE from Snappy Dragon to Walgreens, townhomes.
