Important Changes In Texas Residential Homestead Exemptions

 

Effective September 1, 2011, in order to qualify for a residential homestead exemption you must provide the following to the Central Appraisal District when submitting your application.

 

1) A copy the your Texas driving license or Texas identification card AND

2) A copy of of your vechicle receipt, OR

* If You don’t Own a Vehicle, you need to complete the Non‐Ownership of Motor Vehicle Affidavit on Page 4 of your homestead exemption application. This must be a sworn statement signed before a Notary Public. AND

* A copy of a utility bill for the homestead property showing the bill is in your name and the utility address matches the physical address of the homestead property.

 

Please Note. Your property address on the exemption application must match the address on your vehicle registration and both must match the address on your driver’s license or state ID card or utility bill. All three must have the same address. If they don't match your exemption will not be approved by the chief appraiser.
