Check-list for a Smooth Relocation
It seems to be that time of the year again. We're getting busy answering questions from folks about relocating to the Triangle. Could it be the slew of accolades Raleigh and her surrounding areas are receiving? Our simply 'delightful' weather? Or maybe it's family members joining those that came before. Whatever your reason; if you’re relocating to Wake County, NC give us a call and we’ll help you find your perfect home. Then, after we’ve found your special place to call home, use this check-list to stay organized.
A month before your move
__ Contact and contract with a reputable moving company (we're happy to recommend one).
__ Have school records transferred.
__ Arrange to transfer (or take with you) medical, dental and other important records.
__ Prepare to transfer your auto insurance and line up your new or transferred home owners
insurance to be sure you're covered for any unforeseen disasters.
__ Keep track of moving-related expenses. (Check with your accountant to find out what

__ Prepare to transfer your auto insurance and line up your new or transferred home owners

__ Keep track of moving-related expenses. (Check with your accountant to find out what
expenses will be deductible).
3 weeks before your move
__ Obtain and mail change-of-address cards to the post office, subscriptions, credit card
companies and important contacts.
2 weeks before your move
__ Arrange for final utility reading at your former residence
3 weeks before your move
__ Obtain and mail change-of-address cards to the post office, subscriptions, credit card
companies and important contacts.
2 weeks before your move
__ Arrange for final utility reading at your former residence
__ Arrange to have utilities and phone turned on at your new home
__ Close or transfer bank accounts (not always necessary).
__ Terminate newspaper delivery service.
__ Arrange for transfer of vehicle licenses and driver’s licenses.
__ Have an extra supply of prescription medications for the next few weeks.
Week of your move
__ Confirm with the moving company that all is set.
__ Keep valuable financial records and personal papers with you; do not pack them with the rest
of the household goods.
__ We will have a final walk-through of the property to make sure everything is in order.
__ On closing day, the home purchase documents record and the home is yours!
__ Move in!
After you move in
__ Do a happy jig in your new living room (totally optional of course)!
__ Unpack and feel your new house start becoming a place you call home.
__ Consider plans for landscaping maintenance or even landscaping design and installation.
__ Review home security requirements and systems.
