Maybe you'll get a palindrome, too!

Before coming to ActiveRain I don't think I knew what a palindrome was. I knew that some numbers, like prime numbers, were unique, and I knew that some words were unique, like level, radar, mom, dad, sis.

A palindrome is a word, number, or phrase that reads the same both backwards and forwards. Possibly the coolest set of numeric palindromes involves multiplying numbers with ones in them. For example, in the following multiplication table, the result of each is a palindrome:

1 x 1 = 1
11 x 11 = 121
111 x 111 = 12,321
1,111 x 1,111 = 1,234,321
11,111 x 11,111 = 123,454,321
111,111 x 111,111 = 12,345,654,321
1,111,111 x 1,111,111 = 1,234,567,654,321
11,111,111 x 11,111,111 = 123,456,787,654,321
111,111,111 x 111,111,111 = 12,345,678,987,654,321

When I posted my most recent post, my ActiveRain points total showed this:

That's only the third palindrome I've had here at ActiveRain that I know about. My previous two were on November 28, 2010 (649,946) and May 24, 2011 (785,587). The more numbers you have, the more difficult it is to get a palindrome, so I'm pretty sure I probably had some palindromes that I don't know about prior to November 28, 2010.
