Your Old Shoe Boxes can Bring a Smile to a Child this Holiday-Operation Christmas Child National Collection week November 12-19, 2007

Samaritan's Purse - is an International

Relief organization that provides Spiritual

and Physical aid to people in need around the

world based on the parable of the

Good Samaritan.

I was fortunate to find out about this philanthropic organization through my Ladies Bible Study here locally in Valparaiso, IN...

(More on this group in a future Blog story...this group of 15 women, from a small town, all different Christian denominations, most with grey hair & retired, are impacting the WORLD with wonderful and amazing works of faith!)

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD

delivers millions of shoe boxes to underprivileged children in hundreds of countries all over the world!

They ask for things like For Hygiene Items, School Supplies, Personal Notes - not your typical Santa's List!

These are children in need who most likely won't get anything for Christmas! click here for video---->

If you have an empty shoe box laying around- won't you consider wrapping and fillingone with items suggested on their website - they have drop off points at many places- just enter your zipcode. They collect Early.... November 12-19, 2007.

I'm sure many of you here on AR already do something similar for the needy in your communities or churches...but if you did not know about this wonderful organization and the video moves your heart then that's one more child who will not feel forgotten :)

Grace, This is a wonderful initiative and I remember participating in it a few years back when I attended a small country church not far from here. I'm sure it was the same organization even here in Ontario, Canada.

Yes Jo-Anne -it's a World Wide effort who's headquarters based in North Carolina - glad that you participated - I'm sure you impacted that child who received your shoe box in a special way!

Dearest Pat - If there are more than one post a day on this terrific cause for children around the globe then I am Honored...please don't be sorry!!!! and we may have had the same inspiration to be writing them at the same time...for me I remember praying for many global disasters this year....earthquakes, floods, fires and many are in need . Thanks for taking time to post also - you may have included yours in different groups to touch other readers :)

The Group of Professionals here on Active Rain are exceptional people who care about their communities and I'm sure many of them may already know and contribute to Operation Christmas Child (as already acknowledged in the 2 comments above yours :) But just in case - I wanted to share this info with my peers.

Grace: Thank you so much for posting this in my new group, Activist Rain. My children and I do this every year. It is such a small thing that we can do that will make such a huge impact on a child's heart.

You know what? I want to issue a challenge to the AR community...for each AR member to fill at least one shoe box in honor of each of their children. If they do not have children...then they can give in honor of a niece or just to give love.

I'm so excited about how God can use this network to be a blessing!

I must say I am surprised that I have never heard of this program - my head usually isn't in the sand. Yes, I plan to look into it. As Rotarians, my husband and I participate in many youth oriented charities both locally and worldwide

Grace - I am ALLabout Samaritans Purse, every single year! You Bet! Those shoeboxes take but a teeny fraction (can't even be measured) of my time and the expense is the same. Thanks for putting out the reminder to everyone!

Elizabeth - awesome challenge! Another might be to contact a local state run nursing home and ask about elderly that do not have visitors (you'd be surprised at the number that do not!) and ask about idea's to put in a shoe box for THEM (but not to the exclusion of Samaratan's purse)

Dear Elizabeth - thanks for spreading the word about this worthy cause- my girls and I have done it for several years as well...if even a few more boxes get into the hands of needy children it will be a blessing!

I never heard of the organization until a few years ago from ladies in my Bible study - please share Elizabeth's spirit and spread the word :)

I pick up things on sale year round or visit the local dollar store and these shoe boxes fill up fast - children love to help wrap them and it teaches our children lessons to GIVE :)
