Seller, Say it Ain't So! How to Not Advertise Your Home
There are plenty of safety tips for sellers on the internet but here are a few that we have run across:
When your home is on the market, please do not leave any of the following messages on the answering machine:
Hi there is Mary Smith, leave a message. If you are calling about the house, I will be at work from 8AM to 5PM (or whatever your schedule), show anytime during those hours. Or worse-we will be on vacation from ____to____ so show anytime.
What this means to everyone that calls you is:
No one is home between these hours, feel free to burglarize anytime between 8AM-5PM. Or, if they would like to go ahead an move in, we will not notice.
A few things that you should do are:
Pick up your newspapers as you head out for the day.
Set light timers on lamps so that it appears as if someone is home.
Let your trusted neighbors know when you will be gone.
*Bonus if you can find a doorbell that sounds like a hungry barking, snarling pitbull or rottweiller!
This is our poodle Tiny Tana Tumbleweed (she does have an attitude and is from Montana-hence the tumbleweed part of her name) laughing at the doorbell comment...
