As a lakefront properties specialist in Connecticut, previewing the houses for my out-of-state and long distance clients comes with perks. One of the perks is getting to know the unique and distinct characterictics of the towns I visited. For non-native clients, it is imperative that I throw into the equation for consideration not only the quality of the lake but also the community wherein the property is located.

I scheduled the showing for a property by the Connecticut River at 2:00 PM. My itinerary on top of the showing consisted of checking out the restaurant on Main Street.  A trip would be incomplete without feeding the gustatory sense and palate.  It is an hour drive from home so making the most of the gas mileage has always been a part of the mission. Google pointed me to The River Tavern

My 97 percent foolproof GPS lady finally announced that I reached my destination at 12 Noon. It was a perfect timing. I did starve myself a bit because ZAGAT had raved about the scrumptious menu The River Tavern offers. I scouted around for parking space while marveling at Main's breadth embelished by retail stores. While traversing towards the opposite side of the street  for my first destination, a seemingly septuagenarian man beamed a smile as he uttered "good afternoon" while passing by. The tone of the voice registered with pleasantness. Honestly, that surprised me in a nice way.

Donning a simple but stylish outfit, the staff at the The River Tavern ushered me into a table behind a four feet tall wood partition. The tavern boasts of building menus around seasonal and locally grown food. The place where it serves fresh foods is an infusion of contemporary and Oriental designs and lay out.

For starter, I ordered roasted beet & beltane farm goat cheese salad with tomatoes muscat vinaigrette. The very attentive male and female food administrators would check my table with congenial gestures to ensure that my glass of mineral water was not half empty.

I concluded my fine dining by picking up the last nut on the bowl. Words did not come easy to describe the acquired delight from a single salad serving. My mind wanted to try the main course tempted by the palate's pleasure but my digestive organ refused. Anyway, I severed the connection with the staff by commending them on the excellent food and exceptional service.

It was only 12:40 PM. Since woman's best buddy is shopping, I strolled around in my hopes to score a souvenir. At the corner of the block where the tavern is situated is a custom clothes shop called "FROCK." The shop is operated and owned by two fabulous and trendy ladies Trish Ginter and Laura Larson. Trish and Laura design and sew all the clothings right there at the shop. This is great for ladies who want their dress fit to the hilt. With this in mind, I did not leave without asking for their business card.

My third stop was a highly fashionable store called Dina Varano. Her gallery deploys the gamut of fine jewelry, scarves and cocktail bags. No wonder, I parted with the eye candies with a soothing cashmere and silk scarf.

As I dragged my feet to the parking area, I glanced back at the whole block with amazement. Then my car key beeped to remind me of the last list on the itinerary--- the property I have to preview.

The property was not the right fit for my client. But the whole trip was not a waste. In Chester Connecticut, you don't have to be a resident to get the feeling of belongingness.

Sounds like an ideal northeast community to add to a road trip list.  Thanks for sharing...
