Things to Do, Places to go in Alaska, Go to 'A Christmas Carol' at the VPA

'Tis the season to send Scrooge packing!

The Valley Performing Arts Center is currently holding performances of the Charles Dickens classic story A Christmas Carol. The theater opens each Friday, Saturday and Sunday until the final show on December 18th at 2PM.

Larry and I had a chance to go with some friends this past weekend. The cozy theater was full and it looked to be a good time with other locals. In the audience we saw a retired Alaska State Trooper, a former clerk at the Palmer court house, a local lender, a school teacher and our favorite local hospital admissions guru.

The mix of people in the theater was just as we expected-everyone is welcome. You also do not have to dress in your finest attire, there were jeans, slacks, dresses and furs.

A few of the actors really stood out and were extremely well studied. One was a little bitty guy that had no lines but at the end of the show, he without a doubt STOLE the show. We cant give it away, you will have to see it yourself!

Jennifer, you got it! The actors played different rolls, helped each other with costuming and resetting the stage etc. It was probably just as you imagined.

Hey there Susan, you are always welcome! It would be great to meet you in person. You sound like you would fit in great and pass as a family member anyway so why not? :)

It was fun, definitely a local production but that was part of the 'character' of it anyway.

Hey there Joni, the cruise ships are beautiful and take you to some amazing locations but land would be our recommendation. One of our goals is to post more about our favorite places in Alaska, not just of our area. Part of where we really like is the scenic highway from Seward to Anchorage. Mountains on one side and ocean on the other-it is STUNNING and very much worth the trip.

Let us know if you decide to come up this direction-we like being tour guides too! We have never been to a meet up, so maybe we should figure it out and open the cabins to it. Hmmmm, something to think about!
