Forever Morgans Take Me Home For the Holidays Adoption Fee Special!

By
Real Estate Agent with Bradfield Properties 532238

For a few years now, I've been on the Board of Forever Morgans, LLC, a national Morgan horse rescue that works to rehome Morgans at risk, most often being pulled from a broker in New Holland who sends horses to Canada for slaughter, but also right here at home in Texas and across the country. It's my way of giving back to the animals who have given so much and ask so little, and to the community that loves them.  I've repeatedly seen Morgans that are thin, have scars or current injuries, who, with good reason, are frightened of people, blossom when they are given time and love and patience in a new home.

This year, we have many horses in foster, some registered, some grade, whose holiday wish is for nothing more than a Forever Home and Forever Friend of their very own.  We know you're out there somewhere - won't you step up and identify yourself?

For the month of December we'll be running a holiday special on adoption fees.  One of the rescued Morgans below or in following posts  could be waiting for you, and you alone, to take them home for the holidays and ever after.

For more information, and to apply to adopt, contact us at ForeverMorgans @hotmail.com.  More information on who we are, what we do, and how you can help, along with an application to adopt, can be found on our website at www.forevermorgans.org.

Arabella

Barn name: Arabella

Registered name: grade

Registration #: (n/a)

Sire/ dam: (n/a)

Color: black

Height: 14.1/14.2 hh

Age: 17, best approximation

Gender: mare

Source: New Holland

Current location: Geneseo, IL

Comments: Arabella used to be an Amish driving horse, and we have hitched her a few times. She didn't like it at first, but she stood quiet and was well behaved. She stands very well while being tacked, vetted, and having her feet trimmed. However, she is flinchy towards people, like she had been hit in the past, on the other hand, since she has come her she has improved tremendously and continues to be better around people. She is still learning how to be a good riding horse, but she does extremely well in mounted drill team, will ride quietly down the road, and tries very hard.  She is a very forward horse, not like she's thinking about taking off, but she has a very long stride, especially for her height. Bella will need an intermediate rider to help finish her, but she is a fast learner.

Vigilante, aka "V"

Barn name: Vigilante "V"

Registered name: grade

Registration #: (n/a)

Sire/ dam: (n/a)

Color: bay

Height: 14.1/14.2 hh

Age: two year old

Gender: gelding

Links to other photos and/ or videos: none currently

Source: New Holland

Current location: Geneseo, IL

Comments: V is a very sweet, small horse sized gelding. You can tell by the way he reacts to people that he has had bad experiences with them.  However, with some TLC, he has become very friendly, in-your-pocket kind of horse. He is still a little stranger wary, but otherwise he loves attention and anything you feed him. V is halter broke, lounges in the round pen, and knows basic showmanship skills. Due to his small stature and being young for him age, we are waiting to start him under saddle until he fills out a bit more. He will need someone who will go slow with him, but will be firm enough to not let him develop any bad habits.

"V" was rescued last winter at the advanced age of 18 months along with his dam, Arabella.  He's been pretty much growing and learning not to be afraid of people.  He was a fear-kicker when we picked him up, and a cryptorcid.  Now he is a (gelded) pest-in a good way.  He's about 14.2, still growing.  Ready for someone to start their way!  Take Me Home For The Holidays Adoption Fee:  $310

Comments: Oscar does not drive and we have been told he was very green broke. He appears a bit frightened after all that has happened to him but is very sweet, his foster mom hasn't had any problems with him. There are pictures of him before the auction that shows him with an english saddle on. He has had some neurological damage to a nerve in his face, but doesn't let that stop him from making new friends, and latest report is that it's healing!  Take Me Home For The Holidays Adoption Fee:  $325

Current location: Southeastern PA

Comments: "Fancy" is very sweet, friendly, easy to catch and has no vices. She is comfortable around people and gets along very well with the resident mare. She is also athletic and has lovely gaits, particularly her trot! She understands treats, grain, is good in cross-ties and for grooming and bathing, so she was loved at some point before arriving in foster care (where she has quickly won our hearts). Information from broker at time of rescue was that she is registered but registration papers were not released with her. Vetting paperwork that came with her indicated she might be a Morab (Morgan-Arab cross). A forever home may be able to identify her through DNA testing. Fancy is easy to tack but only appears to be green broke. She will need an experienced rider to bring her along to her full potential. Overall, she is a lovely little mare and will be a wonderful addition to someone's family.  Take Me Home For The Holidays Adoption Fee:  $300

Comments:

I have had him only a week but this is what I can tell you so far.

Health;  Weight is good...could use a few lbs, but mostly needs conditioning.

Eyes, Nostrils and Ears...no signs of disease ,discharge or injury. Clear eyed and alert

Feet.  Looks good. No signs of disease or lameness of any kind

Appetite. Good.  Free choice costal bermuda hay. 12% pelleted feed. Only 1 lb a day to start. Will increase as he becomes accustomed. He looks forward to his grain, but does not pace or beg. Stands quiet.

His manure is normal. He urinates as appropriate.

Temp and heart rate all in normal range. Teeth look appropriate to age.

Wormed him Sat. Took it well.

Temperament ;  William is quiet . Likes attention. Doesn't bite, nibble or push. No cribbing, weaving or pacing. Will follow you in the paddock. Doesn't push , or get in my space. Seems easy going until he meets a mare. They HATE him and he will kick at the fence boards in defence. Can't keep him near the mares. He does share a fence line with my 20 month old Morgan gelding and our mini gelding. No kicking or biteing, an occasional squeal. May put him with the mini in a couple of weeks. Not with my Morgan. He is too precious and I am unwilling to risk his safety. But they do commune over the fence line. He may have herd socialization problems. Maybe spent alot of time alone?

Training. ; William halters easily. Leads well. Stands tied for extended sessions. Likes being groomed. Will readily pick up feet for picking out. Loads and unloads in the trailer. As long as on a lead is well behaved. Spent a few minutes trying to get some pictures running free. He became defensive and kicked out towards us. Havent tried to lunge or anything else yet. Maybe next weekend.
