Rain in Austin TX - Lake Travis Water Levels not Really Changed

We just had 3 consequetive days of rain.  Good, right? Yes, very good, as we're in a horrible drought here in Austin TX.  However, I'm very disappointed. Before the rain started, we were at 626.36 feet in Lake Travis. Three days later, we're only at 626.74 feet.

I expected it to be up a heck of a lot more than that. We're trying to move up from the third lowest water levels in history. I know the ground needs a lot of water, and much of it got soaked in, but I expected more run-off and also more of the water flowing down from the NorthWest areas.

Maybe as the grounds get more saturated, there will still be more run-off, but at this time, the rain has stopped for the rest of the week's forcast.

Here's a picture of Lake Travis just a couple of months ago, before the water was completely gone in this cove...

Having been through Central Texas droughts being broken more than a time or two, I'm actually grateful that we're NOT having the usual "let's fill up the lake in a couple of days" kind of rain that we usually get to break a drought.  Maybe it's the photo of my husband in the canoe in our front yard, or the houses that washed away in  Central Austin one memorable Memorial Day weekend (with lives lost), or Marble Falls being essentially shut down because of 19 inches of rain in one day (yeah, that's how we usually do it), but I'm thinking a nice, slow, rain like this every week or so would be a great way to refill the lakes!

I remember it took months of good rainfall to refill Lanier and other Georgia lakes when we had a similar situation three, four years ago.  We're nearly a foot below average rainfall for the year, but hopefully headed into our rainy season and can make some of it up before the end of the year.  If not I'm sure our lakes will again begin to look similar.

We are 2 feet below average rainfall... it's hard to makeup 24 inches... Lake Travis is full at 681 feet, so to only be 626... we've got 55 feet to go.

It's been a very dry year in Texas and you all can use some rain.

Good luck and success.

It is such a shame that Lake Travis is gone! I see just a little of the water to the left of the picture.  so sad.

Sussie, That's not "Lake Travis" per se, it's a cove branched off of Lake Travis.
