We Are ActiveRain, but in my area, I am ActiveRain!

ActiveRain

I read a comment on a blog recently that just made me stop. Within the comment the relatively new member made the comment   My area is about as competitive as it gets, and I think ActiveRain simply is not influential here.”

My first thought was that this individual had missed Kerrie’s recent blog post looking to identify on Facebook the real members of ActiveRain. This individual didn’t realize that from the moment they became a Rainmaker, they were ActiveRain in their community. What that presence meant was that the community would only be recognized for the consistency and quality of the information that they presented. The rest of us here would be giving them support by maintaining our presence, with our blogging as support and that would get the crawlers from ‘Google’ coming over because of the new content coming out of this platform.

I have often used the analogy that getting attention on the Internet is similar to trying to get the attention of a thousand teens in a school auditorium. In order to get their attention, you need to put something out there that would be of interest to them, and that would cause them to stop long enough to listen. The Internet search engines are no different. The call to attention would be the tags and content that makes someone stop on a blog and read. If those tags are similar to the search words that a consumer uses, more people stop to read. In a particular area, the search words are enhanced, especially with a Localism post. Those little posts about local restaurants, service providers, ice cream stores, specialty shops that are just fluff to someone a 1,000 miles away, but to someone in the area, very important pieces of information. When they need real estate related information down the road, they will remember where the source of all information lies.

ActiveRain is a collective support system teaching and supporting so that when a new member signs in, even into an area that is dominated by a particular brand or company, it’s the presence of that ActiveRain member that will give them a competitive edge. The support of 218,000+ members would add a lot of power to the efforts of any person regardless of the competitiveness of that area.

From the moment that that light clicks, and we recognize what ActiveRain can do for us, then it’s appropriate to really say I am ActiveRain’ in my area.

We Are ActiveRain, but in my area, I am ActiveRain!

Ed, that is excellent that you are representing ActiveRain in your area. Even though there are a lot of AR members, only few that contribute good content that is going to be useful for consumers/home buyers. Keep up the good work.

Ed, We agree that the Activerain community and system is unbelievably supportive.  Not a day goes by that we don't do a search to solve a technical problem or learn more about a topic.  Thanks for highlighting this for everyone, especially newbies, to read.

I have earned commission checks because of referrals given and received on AR.  That to me is well worth it and AR is my first place to go to search for a referral agent.  I've also learned of many new marketing tools and techniques from reading here.

However, my use of the blogging platform is mainly to send anchor text links to my main website, helping that site to rank well in the search engines.  My AR posts do not rank for my main keywords because I do not send very many links to my AR blog.  I know Google has a new algorithm and maybe links won't be as popular as they once were, but I still think they will be valuable.

Many bloggers here (especially new ones) will not see their blog posts appear in the search engines for their area or keywords.  But the same will happen to a new or existing site or blog that hasn't been nurtured with backlinks and proper seo.  My own office provides free websites to each member, but none of them appear in the serps because the agents don't know how to do it.  I've been offered lunch and even 20 bucks to help a few of them.  For the couple I tried helping, they didn't get it and wanted me to do it all for them.  The only way a buyer or seller will ever see their website or blog is if they put their url on their signs, business cards and other advertising/marketing.

I love the power of Active Rain.  The information out there is tremendous; albeit, I still have a hard time coming to grips with having to pay hefty monthly fees to be blogging on someone else's site.  Maybe I will wait till I have 1 million points so I can get a free subscription...LOL!

Hmmm... It's kinda sad that I am Active Rain in my community.

Why is it sad? Because I'm not an agent any more!

Once in a while I post about a local business or non-profit, but since my copywriting business isn't local, most of my posts apply to anyone in the U.S. - or actually anywhere in the world.

Active Rain does have one other member in our community - but I don't think he's ever posted to a blog. He's probably never even visited here since he signed up a few years ago. A shame. Just THINK what he could do if he used the opportunity!

Oh well. The fact is that in the small community of Priest River, Idaho - a real estate copywriter is Active Rain!

Wanda, the nature of ActiveRain and it's value is not easily determined until one has been here for a while

Hella, this platform offers a wealth of information to any who know how to use it and aren't afraid to ask.

Chris, and it can also be a fun place as well.

David one never knows who will pick up and read a post, the concept and idea is to fill the community your serve with information and let it be there for someone to pick

Richie, I like the Fame and Gain part, and yes it can be fun

Mike, as you get into it more you will see it in a totally different light

Christine, I had no idea when I first started that this platform could help me the way it did and in so many ways.

Debra, people have a fear of expressing and don't understand how much information they can pass along and be kept there for a long time.

Judith, it goes beyond getting into the swing of things, it goes to knowing how to put the information out there so that it reaches the people you want it to reach, that's where all the learning comes from.

Debbie, you are a prime example of getting this paltform to be useful and having it promote your business

Michael, whether there are many or just 1 just the reality of you being there gives them a presence along with the support of an additional 200,000 fellow marketing assistants

Hi Al & Peg, you know best, there's little point in beating around the bush

Yvette, your company alone is big competition but you know there are certain Rainers that stand out but they don't get all the business.

Sandy, on it's best day, I believe there were only 2,000 blogs posted, and I would venture to say that if 5% of the membership were consistent with their blogging that might be a reasonable number. The lurkers are far more waiting to test the waters.

Rob, I respectfully disagree, and the tone of many of the cmments here are along the same vein. As for pulling out of context, what I left out would go to identifying the person and that was not my intention. The comment itself was left at 12:05 PM which would not be late night for someone working this as a full time business

Jennifer, the first discussion would have to be with people just recognizing that there is a value to blogging to blogging, regardless of the platform. If they can't see a value to a blog, no point going beyond there. It takes time to create an online presence, and many people want instant results, within a few weeks, and those are the people that monthly pay for some ones list at a cost of hundreds of dollars a month.

Kathy, I can find more information quicker on this platform than I can any where else, including recipes

Chuck, it's read, write and then reap the rewards

Janis, you do have some excellent Rainers in your neighborhood, but if you do what you should you will get your share of the activity. First sell your are, then yourself, then your abilities.

Brian, if we put up what people want to see and do it with some inteligence and maybe a little flair you'll get recognition.

Donna, I went back to review some of their blogs, and there is substance but it needs to be presented with a more local tone, and not so generic. A little bit of SEO training would help immensely.

Susan, none of the other agents in your area look at anything with the same angle you do.

I've heard similar comments about AR and my response is always that you get what you put in to it. If you sit back and wait for the community to come to you, you'll be waiting a while. If you engage and participate, you'll start to build those relationships and reap the benefits, which are vast!

I agree with Jairo, I have yet to realize actual $ from activerain, no prospects, no referrals, no leads. But I do enjoy learning from and also sharing my knowledge and experience with the community. Discussing relevant topics is important to all of us, and also I enjoy seeing the differences in the standards of practice across the USA, every area is different, and I am amazed at the differences.

I'll agree that the AR community is supportive, but the size is far, far less than 218,000. 218K is the number who at one time or another created an AR profile, and just from looking at point totals we can see there is a very high percentage of abandoned accounts.

Even so, the real power of AR is in a member using the platform to connect with buyers and sellers in their local markets. And for that it only takes one blogger who can consistently deliver valuable content.
