Won’t You Be My Neighbor

By
Home Stager with Perceptions AdverStaging(TM), LLC

I remember watching the smiling face of Mr. Fred Rogers as he sang Won't You Be My Neighbor, while putting on one of his famous sweaters.

I particularly liked the way he somehow made me feel welcome, even though I sat on one side of a screen and he on the other.

It somehow never occurred to me that we were worlds apart.  Mr. Rogers was able to convey his sincere invite into his own special neighborhood and found a way to maintain that mystique through the entire program with various characters and lines of communication.

I loved the concept of the Neighborhood Mr. Rogers created and never forgot it.

It doesn't surprise me a bit that here I am today, participating in a neighborhood that reminds me greatly of Mr. Rogers Neighborhood.

From the moment I found Active Rain's Home Page, I was invited to enter into the neighborhood and become a vital part of a thriving real estate community.  Immediately, I was invited to put on my own sweater by filling out the Profile and get more comfortable, a little at a time.  Emails came quickly, welcoming me, encouraging me and sometimes even leading by the hand - some of us need more direction than others.

I've found several cul-de-sacs in the neighborhood I like to hang out at; and I have a few favorites that you're sure to find me at.  There's Active Rain Newbies, where I met my first Active Rain friend, recently wed, Judi Morgan.  I've learned much in this group and when everyone else is sound asleep at 3:00 am, I know I can find someone walking around, keeping patrol in the neighborhood over there, always at the ready to answer a question or provide direction.

There's Stage It Forward; I wouldn't even know of the Active Rain Neighborhood or the high real estate value it provided, were it not for Craig Schiller and Stage It Forward.  The camaraderie, learning potential, and growth opportunities available to the staging industry and  groups within Active Rain have blossomed thanks to Stage It Forward.  I am especially grateful for those cul-de-sac neighbors and friendships that are forming.

You never know who is paying attention to your conversation here in the neighborhood and what might transpire when one of your neighbors overhears that conversation.

Active Rain's neighborhood has led me to another cul-de-sac, one I might not ever have heard of or considered had I not settled in the neighborhood and that is Buffini and Company, Coaching the Good Life!  Though no stranger to professional and business coaching, this coaching has proven invaluable and the friendships I am developing even more treasured.  A few months ago, I read something Fran Rokicki had written about Buffini and Company and decided to follow it up with a call to her.  Being the professional she is, she took my call and the rest is history.  I expect I'll be found in this cul-de-sac for a long time to come.

I know we all have our favorite cul-de-sacs in the Active Rain neighborhood; but at least one thing remains the same - We're all neighbors.

I particularly like the way you somehow make me feel welcome, even though I sit on one side of a screen and you on the other.

Won't you be my Active Rain Neighbor?

Beate- LOL!  I don't worry about the others that are up all hours of the night working too - we all have our vices, erm...insomnia :)  You're right, kindness and helpfulness abounds and I'm glad you're a part of the neighborhood too.

Thanks for stopping in!

Judy - you are so kind!  I'm looking forward to hearing all about your wedding!  I'm trying to work some things out - cross your fingers and toes for me regarding January, OK?

We sure do have fun visiting the same cul-de-sacs.  Thanks for popping in :)

Suzanne- Hey, we really are neighbors!  LOL! It's OK, don't fight the song - did you see my comment to Lisa?  I'm thinking singing this song while you're showing houses just might be the newest hottest real estate selling ticket around!  (think I can sell the idea on Active Rain Neighborhood Infomercial-Television?)

Jackie - you put it very poetically about various places people hang out here. I am intererested in what you learned from the Buffini seminar - I also found references to it here on AR and was wandering if it's something I can benefit from.

Good luck on this entry, I am sure you will do great. I loved reading your post.

Hi Faina- I'm glad you enjoyed the post.  Actually, I didn't attend a seminar, still haven't - but I do, as a Club Net member, take advantage of several seminars, small groups, regional meetings, call - in's, twice monthly coaching sessions and there is a plethora of online resources that help to drive my business.  There is much more than I can address here; and I know there is much more I'm not even aware of.  I'm a long time professional coaching subscriber, but new to Buffini as of 9/7/07.  I am involved with small and regional groups (newly) and will be at the annual MasterMind Summit this coming August - I've heard nothing but good about it.  I'd be happy to talk to you more if you'd like to contact me or by all means, call Buffini and Company - I talked to them on the phone for a total of 7 hours as I wanted to make sure it was a good fit.

Donald- Thank you!  I am glad you liked the analogy - I thought it quite fitting and we do make connections somehow, don't we?  Hopefully, our clients are able to connect with us as well.  I'll be popping over to check out your blog too - look for me.

Hi Jackie:  I can remember watching Fred Rogers every day with my daughter Robin.  He was such a nice man.  Fred and his cardigan sweater.  It was a special time for Robin and me... it was "our time."  As things have gotten crazier in our world, and as my daughter has grown older... the time she and I spent in Mr Roger's neighborhood is both a happy and a sad reminder of days gone by.  Jackie, thanks for taking the time to share this with us...   Karen Anne

Hi Karen!  You are so very welcome.  I'm glad I could help you to remember a a special time with your daughter Robin and Mr Rogers.

Yes, true, life has gotten crazier; but also much easier in many ways and our worlds have expanded - who would have thought our "screen" would have gone from the only one we knew to the one we most frequently use.

Thanks for stopping in neighbor.

Hi Jackie:  I can remember when I used to watch Mr Rogers with my daughter when she was a child.  That was about thirty years ago.  I can also remember how my own Dad would see us watching Mr Rogers and comment about how boring it all looked.  He just didn't understand kids and Moms.  Oh, Jackie, how nice it would be to see a wholesome show like Fred Rogers on television now.  No sex, no violence, just Fred's neighborhood... all the people, and their stories.

Candy - I'm guessing you were doing what I'm famous for, multi-tasking (or multi-thinking) and combined two people - it's OK with me, sometimes you come out with a really cool person that way :)

Yep, Mr. Rogers sure was on an even keel, wasn't he?  Steady and predictable in nature.  Maybe that's why he still has so many fans.  Thanks for your kind comments and believe me, I'm proud to be YOUR neighbor, I enjoy your blog.

Julianna- now you know I'm going to have to go searching for that blog post.  I'd ask you to make it easy on me and email the link, but then I'll bet I'd miss plenty of other interesting posts I'll be having to pass.  I wonder how long it'll take me to find it :)

Karen - I also remember watching Mr. Rogers as a bonding time and I think my own Dad saw it as a waste too, though I really don't remember him actually saying it - just a sense I got.  There are lot's of folks not really familiar with Active Rain that might say the same thing though, right?  Spending time building relationships and bonding through this medium is important to some of us.  Thanks for sharing your memories and have a great day.

Jackie
