Stay On Top of the Real Estate Game With “Entrepreneur-Like” Traits

When you hear the word “entrepreneur” who, or what do you think of? If names like Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, Oprah Winfrey and Martha Stewart come to mind, you’re probably on the same track as most other people. As an outsider, it may seem like these people reached success out of nowhere, or with a simple idea or little effort. But as we all know, reaching success isn’t always a cakewalk. Most successful entrepreneurs back up their success stories with plenty of hard work, dedication and a few other traits that make them all the more awesome.

While there are dozens of traits that successful entrepreneurs possess, I am going to touch on a few of the more prominent ones. As your real estate virtual assistants, we have a first hand look at all of the amazing real estate agents out there who are demonstrating qualities of success everyday. We are also here to remind you on what they are – you know, in case you ever find yourself in a slump.

Here are five traits to keep in mind that will continue to contribute to your success story!

Positivity – Do you ever notice that people’s positivity tends to rub off on others? There really is something about a positive attitude that is magnetic, intriguing and inspiring. If you walk into your office and there is a dullness looming in the air, make sure you let employees know why they’re job is important and that what they do matters. Don’t just be a leader that exudes authority – give off positive vibes that motivate and inspire. A genuine positive attitude towards what your company does is truly contagious, and you will notice the difference pretty quickly.

Honesty – You know what they always say, honesty is the best policy. This also applies to your professional endeavors. Although we are top notch professionals in our field, we are also human, and that means there may be times when our expertise falls short. If you’re ever pressed for an answer or presented with a challenge you may not be well-suited for, it is important to be honest with yourself as well as your employees and clients. As real estate agents, there is always a client waiting for an answer. While it may be easy to spin your response into a thoughtful excuse, sometimes it is best to just be straight forward and simply tell them you don’t have an answer. Although it may not be the answer they are looking for, it may be the best one you can give.

Passion – If you weren’t passionate about real estate, you wouldn’t be doing it, right? Of course not! While you know how passionate you are about what you do, make sure you show this in your everyday routine. When you’re working with buyers and sellers, let them know that passion is the drive behind your success, and not your commission. Go above and beyond whenever you can, even when a client gives you very little notice or asks you to do something for them that isn’t normally in your job description. Illustrating your passion will help you build trust with your clients and keep them coming back or referring your services to others.

Informative – Imagine one of the most successful people you know. What are some of their most noticeable traits? Or rather, what are some of the activities they partake in everyday? Do they read books, blogs, email newsletters and newspapers?  One of the most important contributors to success is staying informed about your industry and the world, and there is never a time to stop learning. Staying informed means you’re building on your basics and staying ahead of the curve instead of reaching a plateau.  Here’s a tip: read one book cover-to-cover about your industry or subscribe to a magazine relevant to the real estate industry.

Accessibility – This one can be hard, can’t it? As a real estate agent, you are constantly running around. One minute you’re in the office, the next minute you’re at a showing, the next at a closing, and right now you’re reading this blog. I totally understand. But one thing that everyone values is a quick response and all-around attentiveness to their needs. Although it’s impossible to answer your phone every time it rings, make a conscious effort to answer as much as you can, even if it’s just to say “Can I call you back in 10 minutes?” The fact that you answered and provided an explanation will let your client know that they are on your mind.

While many of you are already practicing these traits everyday, it’s never a bad thing to have a little reminder of what makes you good at what we do. If you ever need a pick-me-up, contact your real estate virtual assistant and we’ll give you a pep talk. For more marketing, social media and blogging advice, stay in touch with our blog

Laura and Carole, thanks for reading and commenting on our blog! We're so glad that you are thinking about reblogging this, AND that we convinced you to subscribe. So many people forget that in a lot of ways, real estate agents are "entrepreneurs." Even if they are apart of a team, they have to get themselves established and focus on building their brand and their business. The only way to really see success in a business where so much is dependent on how you market yourself is to see yourself as an entrepreneur and really take on these traits. We hope that you keep reading and commenting. We'd love to hear more feedback about what you think about our blogs!

Eileen, you are so right! Staying inspired and passionate is imperative to doing your job and staying on top of your business. If you lose the drive and motivation and passion for what you do, then that becomes apparent to those around you and you won't see as much success. Sometimes it's good to go "back to basics" and remind yourself what it is that makes people so successful. Thank you for always taking the time to comment on our posts and give your feedback! We really appreciate hearing from you.
