This is a sharing that carried over from last year. A client of mine invited me to a Women’s Holiday Dinner at a local church, one that I attended on an infrequent basis. The evening is a coming together of women in the community for friendship, worship and to celebration the real meaning of the season. So this year, I decided to host a table and invited several of my clients/friends.
But in addition, there is a community outreach component. In addition to an elegant dinner by Scott’s Seafood of Oakland, we were treated to a gifted singer song-writer, performing holiday tunes and some of her original work. We were entertained and inspired by a crowd-pleasing speaker and led spiritually by several other members of the church staff.
In addition to the friendship, fellowship and fun, the giving extended outside the doors of the auditorium. Raffle prizes raised funds for MOPS (Mothers of Pre-schoolers.) This program helps young mothers, especially those that are struggling with challenges within the family setting. The antler-bedecked moms were sprinkled throughout the crowd selling tickets for fabulous gifts baskets. And, another group was poised in the foyer as guests arrive for the dinner.
Guests were also encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy for a Toys For Tots drive. Large bins were filling up fast, as guests contributed to this worthy effort.
Several women spoke of their personal journeys, and times of trial, offering uplifting stories of hope. Hostesses decorated tables with festive decorations and holiday tableware, turning an auditorium into a magical array of lights, color and mood. With 80 hostesses, you can imagine how beautiful the room looked. It was a truly relaxing and inspiring evening. I can’t wait for next year!
