I was just reading a post by Patricia Kennedy called To the Newbies: 10 Tips to Help the Oldies Notice You. Now, being a newbie here there is so much to learn about Active Rain, and that is all good. But this statement she made really stuck out for me, "Your local posts, market information and listings will make your phone ring from consumers. Your opinion and information posts will get you noticed by other bloggers ane the Gold Star Pixie in Seattle."
The reason this really struck a chord with me is because I was totally focused on the professionals part of my time on Active Rain, until yesterday. I was reviewing some notes I had written from a webinar I had listened to by Katerina Gassatt called Blogging for Listings. I had taken a ton of notes, but you know, you can only do so much with the information you have. That's why I frequently review my notes to see what I should be adding.
Active Rain is giving me so much great content I now have an Active Rain notebook just for notes from webinars and information I'm learning here. Can't wait for the Rainmaker event next Wednesday! (back to my topic - sorry for the bunny train)
I don't know about you but sometimes when I listen to a webinar I write lots of notes on paper and in my head I think, Yes! I need to do that. It's really only when I go back to my notes where I have starred items that I really begin the steps necessary to do those items.
I also find that I tend to find myself focusing on one type of thing. It's almost like I end up with a theme of the week. This weeks theme has ended up being "local blogging." I wrote my first local blog last night sharing a field trip that I took my family on while relatives were visiting.
With the success of some of my posts I had to force myself to not get discouraged by only a few comments. It's not about the comments for those, but what is the purpose?
It was while I was thinking about this that I stumbled on Patricia's newbies post. Suddenly that sentence, "your local posts, market information and listings will make your phone ring from the consumers" hit me. The purpose is to get the phone to ring! With every local post I need to keep that end result in mind. The purpose is to get the phone to ring!
So, that got me thinking. I've been studying marketing for a long time and know that with marketing you must always have a call to action. It has to be clear. It has to be timely. And it must make them want to take action.
This brings me some questions for my AR buddies. When you create your local posts, do you create a clear call to action on every post? Do you reword the call to action or keep it the same? Is it simply a part of your signature line? Do you evaluate every post to decide if a call to action is needed?
And now - for your call to action - please leave me a comment and let me know how you get your phone to ring with your local posts.
