Pet Safety...

By

I don't know if anyone was watching the morning news... but a chihuahua was attacked by a "hawk" yesterday in Sugar Land.  This is something I repeatedly warn my clients about...when buying on the west side of Houston, Katy, Fulshear, Sugar Land.  It wasn't all that long ago that we were rice fields and cattle pastures.  The wildlife is still here... In fact, the predatory birds such as "hawks" and "owls" and also the "Ospreys", which migrate through here, have figured out that there hunting has improved.  Small dogs and cats, anything in the 4-7lb range, are meal-sized to these large birds.  In fact, one of my friends actually stood in terror as her cat was carried off by a large hawk... needless to say there was nothing she could do about it.  So, I have rambled enough... but please do not leave your small pets unattended in the back yard, day or night... they are prey!

Cynthia, it is so crazy!  My dad lives in the Houston area and all they have are some ducks that live at their neighborhood pond.  Up here in the DFW area, where new construction and urban sprawl are still alive we find wildlife issues too.  There was a fox in my neighborhood not long ago, but he traveled downstream on a creek to get to us because I'm in an older, more established part of town.

Cynthia,

Thanks for sharing, earlier this year my neighbor & I were out doors watching our dogs play, when a coyote ran through our yard, we both screamed & grabbed out pets;  we were pretty flustered.

Thanks for the "heads up" on the coyotes... I forgot to mention those.  They can be a real problem in subdivisions as well... you just don't realize that the bayous are a pathway they can take..

Hi Ladies,

Glad to see you folks are posting blogs on AR. Good blog as folks need to be concerned and not leave small pets ouyside for extended periods of time.

What do you folks think about the new owners of PGG?
