What's the Deal With Stik.com?

Facebook has yet another way for one to connect with colleagues and client similar to facebook and Google + called Stik.com.
I received a notification if I'd like to join and knowing SEO is a fickle friend, thought; hey why not!?! computer

My problem now is that Stik.com is now sending messages to all my facebook colleagues and acquaintances begging for a referral about what a good Real Estate Agent I am.

I am not a Real Estate Agent. And:

crabby

Do.

Not.

Beg.

If someone likes my work enough to refer me, that's wonderful.

If I've worked for someone and ask for feedback after the job is done, then I might use something they've said as a testimonial.

But I did not agree to, nor did I give permission for, this blanket plea for referrals.

Especially one as misleading as calling myself , in the request, a Real Estate Agent.

I'm seriously thinking about cancelling my subscription(?) to Stik.com for that reason alone, SEO or no...

What do you think? question

Sal Gal. not good at all! I think because you have to choose from a limited amount of titles they just put you in a category and tell the world that's what you are because they don't have the imagination to know there are other professions related to Real Estate...

Rosalie, I agree, to a degree. When I joined I gave a lot of recommendations to my colleagues. I don't mind giving recomendations to people/friends/colleagues, but I simply DO NOT BEG for referrals. The way to get a referral is to give one or earn one. And certainly not by letting some anonymous computer program put words in my mouth and make me look desperate.

If you recall I got one of those requests from you, which was no problem. I wrote a recommendation and later when I saw it, the Real Estate Agent thing confused me...........I just thought it was because I'm old. Thanks for the explanation BU-FU. Barbara, when I signed up there were two options on the first page: Give referrals and ask for referrals. I chose the give referrals to whomever I knew but would not have clicked the ask button if my hair was on fire!

I canceled my acct a while ago. Too cheesy for me. Besides, I bet a huge percentage of the 750K people that Stik person (comment #12) said recommended people were agents Stik(ing) each other.

Peg, I had the same problem and I posted on my FB that I ddin't requested referrals. And that #12 comment is just a BS. I saw those "begging" right after I signed in Stick.com. Now I know that I should go to options a cancel some of choices ( do I have time fore that?) but by default they definitely did made me look like I am begging for refferalls. I just hate that.

Nick, believe you'd know if you'd joined, you'd be getting a coonstant barrage of notifications... Thanx! Who knew I could get featured because of something that made me angry... :D

Anna, I went to the link that Stik sent me in this posting and it not only would not let me cancel any options, it wouldn't let me do anything unless I had '+1' -ed a bunch of people. I actually had to close the page, couldn't even go back a page clicking on the back button (top left arrow).
