21 Comments on Do you know which College Football Rivalry dates back to the year 1890?
Go Army !
I am going to check this out later after the cookies are done.....I happen to be a Navy girl myself.
Hi Endre - For football rivalries (real football, that is - the kind that actually involves foots) it's hard to beat Barcelona-Real Madrid: El Classico!
WoW! I had no idea it dated that far back. I really know nothing about football. I guess I am so un-Amercian! Thanks for the trivia!
Endre, I personally think the only games that matter are Da Bearzzzzzzzzz against the cheese heads, LOL.
Adrian, that is the only Game which is so polarized:))) but I am biased Beat Navy!!!
Clay I am with you 100% GO ARMY Beat Navy!!
Suzanne, you are a Navy Girl oh well I knew you had some faults hidden there:))
Dick, I was talking about College Rivalries, now I wonder are you from Europe??? Beat Navy!!!
Jennifer there are some older rivalries I think Yale & Harvard:))
Juli this not Pro rivalries:))) GO ARMY!
Endre, For pure college football rivalries (and I'm obviously biased), it's hard to touch this one or compare it to anything else. Navy's had a down year, but I'm still fully expecting them to run their active win streak over Army to 10....it's a matter of survival for my day job. At my site, there's probably 40-50 Woops, but only 2 of us from Navy. A win is essential to keeping those folks quiet for another year. It's been a great decade of peace! It'll be a game I'll be parked in front of the TV for tomorrow! GO NAVY!!!! Bill USNA '85
Bill, yes it has been a quiet decade giving up the overal winning streak, but as you know all good things must come to an end. GO ARMY! BEAT NAVY!!!!
I think that's the oldest major college football rivalry although not in terms of number of games played. I think Minnesota-Wisconsin has more games played and might even be older by a couple of weeks since the Army-Navy game is always played as the last game of the year.
Lehigh and Lafayette actually have the oldest rivalry. I only know that because my other half's fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega, was founded at Lafayette, so he knows everything there is to know about Lafayette, and he doesn't mind telling me. LOL
Jim Thank you for the clarification, I did not say it was the oldest rivalry, only the one that was since November 29th 1890:)) Actually I think they are in the top five of the oldest rivalry but not the oldest:)) GO ARMY!~ BEAT NAVY!
Endre, I'm a army man as well. Great post, I always love watching this game and rooting for the Army!
Joni, sadly as I write this comment Navy beat Army again(:
Will well there is always next year Go Army beat Navy!
Thank you for the history behind this, Endre. I had no idea it started back then. Have a fabulous day.
