I had a call from a man this morning that was browsing on my website and wanted to see a listing. I asked my normal questions in between getting to trying to get to know him better. He was very allusive with his answers and insistent upon seeing this condo immediately. When I got to the prequalification question he said he didn’t have one but, that he would contact a lender if I had a recommendation. I gave him a couple and said that anyone of them would be able to help him today and that after that we could set up a tour. He instantly became agitated and wanted to meet in an hour and me to pick him up from a metro stop. I explained that I was already booked today and while I was happy to show the property promptly he had to prequalify first so that we knew we were seeking the proper price range. I offered to call a lender on three-way to get him started. He declined and said all he wanted was to see the house and “meet me” – my instincts kicked in and I was suddenly very uncomfortable. I told him again that without a prequalification I won’t show properties. He hung up! The particular condo he was interested in showed “vacant” in the public remarks which made me even more leery.
It’s not often that clients ride in my car and I’ll NEVER agree to pick someone up that I’ve never met (male or female). I don’t mind meeting someone at Starbucks or a public place to do a consultation but, to put them in my car won’t happen.
Always follow your instincts; they’ll rarely lead you off track!
