Deer.jpg - 1699760This deer is standing in front  of one of our local newspapers,  Earlier this morning the deer took  a walk through one of our Tim Horton's  drive thru's.  A lot  of people have been able to pet the deer as it is very friendly and has been hanging out at one of our local parks.   Maybee this young deer is waiting for someone or something???

How sweet.  Although I'm glad we haven't had snow yet!

Dora,  Perhaps he is very hungry and has an illness that is making him delusional. Hopefully someone will bring him a bale of hay to munch on.  I'm feeling very sorry for him...

Hi Jo-Anne

The deer is no where to be seen so hopefully he has found his way back into the forest where he will be safe.

Very unusual! They usually avoid humans. I agree, probably hungry.

We had a large buck crash through a window into our home last year.  We live on a populated cul-de-sac and it was a shock.  Sadly, things like this are happening more and more as wildlife corridors and green spaces are being eaten up by development or impacted by environmental degradation.  I hope this little fellow finds a safe haven.

Dora, That's cute!  When I lived in PA, the deer used to come into my backyard and eat out of my bird feeders.  I love to watch them!

Marg you are absolutely right.  The poor animals green spaces are been eaten up by development, Still no sight of him so I'm sure he has found his way back to the forest.  Dora

Roberta we love them too,  they are a very graceful animal and I think need more protection from mankind.  Dora

Dora:  two things are happening with the deer population--it's exploded in the last century as subdivisions proliferate.  Quite the opposite from what many people think, the development has created more--not less--food for them.  They thrive on "edge growth" where light gets in and grass grows.  this would include roads and subdivisions.  Secondly, the hunting of deer has declined at the same time the population of deer is growing.  Deer don't live in the woods, because there's no food on the forest floor.  They hide there.  The live where the food is.  Increasingly, the food is found where humans develop the land.

Hi Dora,I heard about the deer on the radio the other day.  Which Timmy's was it visiting?

Dora, As you may know while this is cute it is not healthy for the deer to be friendly with people.  We have a national park near our home where they walk through the campsites regularly, but we are forbidden to approach them, Karen

Thanks Nora.

Hi Karen, one thing I didn't mention was that the local radio stations were advising people to stay away from the deer as you are right it is not healthy for the animal.

Hi Uta, the deer was at the Timmy's on Victoria St.
