With the opening of the new store “Twin Cities Green,” it seems that Minnesota is getting greener! According to The Green Guide, Minneapolis ranked 6th on its top 10 Green Cities list in 2005 (www.thegreenguide.com). With new organic and eco-friendly stores popping up around the twin cities, it looks like were making some great changes.
With new retail stores, comes new products, which ultimately means more ways to spend our money. And while I don’t mind spending a little more on organic goods, I also like to do my part the cheap and easy way.
Here’s some great ways to go green on a budget!
1) Take a shorter shower. In doing so you will save water and the energy, not to mention money!
2) Open those curtains! By allowing more natural light into your home, you can lower the use of electricity; artificial light adds up to almost 15% of the home's total electricity.
3) Stop adding waste - Instead of using a paper or plastic cup, invest in a mug and use it throughout the day.
4) Individual servings at grocery stores use up more packaging. When possible, purchase the family size.
5) My Favorite. Purchase a canvas bag or two and bring it to the grocery store to avoid using their plastic or paper bags. Or better yet, give them as gifts this Holiday Season!
