Environmental Award goes to the Port of San DiegoThe Port of San Diego’s Green Port Program in Downtown San Diego was recognized and received an environmental award at the 4th annual Work Boat Environmental Awards on Nov 30th, 2011 in New Orleans. The program got first place in the category of “Comprehensive Environmental Management Plan”.

This category is for businesses and government agencies that exemplify innovative and effective environmental process initiatives.  The Green Port Program’s purpose is to increase energy efficiency of businesses around the San Diego Bay as well as reduce their environmental impacts. Many businesses around the San Diego Bay as well as Downtown San Diego Condo and Downtown San Diego Loft residents have teamed up to become more green. As chairman of the board of Port Commissioners, Scott Peters said “the Port of San Diego has been an environmental steward for the San Diego Bay for nearly 50 years” and that they are honored to have received this award.
