Today in the Seattle PI there is a blog post about the State of Washington Attorney General settling the case against HouseValues for bad leads. The blog post is here.

As a former HouseValues customer I am happy to see that the company has agreed to change some of their business practices. The majority of the leads I received from HV were of very poor quality. I complained on many occasions and was always told just to keep in contact the leads would pan out..... Well, in my case this never happened. I did learn a lot from their training classes so I cannot say the entire time was a complete waste of money but it was not money well spent for certain.

As a new agent who had a strong tech background I allowed myself to thing that the Internet would be the best way for me to get leads. After my 6 months with HV. I realized that I was fooling myself. I am my best source for leads! I just need to get out and meet people!

Best wishes,

Thanks for the news.  This appears to be a case of an attorney general protecting agents and brokers from a provider.  Very unusual.

Scott, HouseValues took advantage of our team for a year. We celebrated the day our contract expired. At $500 per month it produced one transaction in 12 months.

Scott,

As you have learned there is no better source of clients than from people who know you, like you, and trust you. You have learned quick, some real estate agents have been making the same rookie mistakes for the past 10 years.

Thanks everyone! I am glad that HV is being handled by the AG. It was really difficult for me to accept that a lead from abc@hotmail.com would be a valid lead. I was told on many occasions the story of mickeymouse@....com turned out to be a legit lead. That was the story that they always seemed to come back to.

Charles you are spot on. People who know, trust and like you are indeed the fountain from which our careers flow.

Best wishes,

Scott, I'm out of the lead purchasing business. It's up to me to make the phone ring. Too many of my hard dollars chased soft promises. Back to basics! Good to hear one state is pursuing sham artists. Here is New Jersey they occupy political office.
