The Community with a proud past and a
bright future!
The town of Roselle started more than 130 years ago and began as a farming district in Bloomingdale Township where village namesake Rosell (not Roselle) Hough began manufacturing rope and linen with his Illinois Linen Company. In 1873, Hough who was also president of the Chicago and Pacific Railroad was influential in routing a new rail line that would run from Halsted Street in Chicago out to Elgin and then on to Savanna IL.
In 1953, a sign posted as you came into town on Irving Park Road said the population was 1,000 but then 20 years later the town began to bloom in size. Like the neighboring towns of WoodDale, Itasca, Medinah and Bartlett, Roselle grew up around it's downtown area and railroad. Now the towns borders are stretched to their limits and Roselle finds itself turning back to its center and revitalizing the downtown area. They are using a new blend of retail and residential development normally found in the north shore areas.
The train station (Milwuakee West Line) also services Medinah, Elk Grove and Schaumburg and offers the largest expanded parking areas with 6 different lots available for daily commuters. Commuters love the express line!
Currently the population is over 23,000 (2000 census) with homes averaging in price at $343,000 and topping out at $1,850,000 for custom construction. Roselle is in both the counties of Cook and Dupage,
1/4 being in Cook and 3/4's in DuPage.
