About half a square mile in the heart of New York City’s Midtown Manhattan neighborhood, the Plaza District is a small piece of land, but its influence on the world is apparent: even Midtown Manhattaners know that the Plaza Dist. is perhaps the zenith of Midtown’s expensive real estate. Spanning from 42nd Street to 59th Street and from Third to Seventh Avenue, the neighborhood might very well be the most expensive place in the world.
Just on the southwest tip of Central Park, the P.D. is sandwiched by Midtown East and West, not far from the Garment District, perhaps the world’s fashion capital. But the real influence of the P.D. is in its real estate. Considering that sixth avenue hosts the headquarters of all four major television networks, it’s not hard to see where the affluence of the P.D. comes from.
The New York Museum of Modern Art and Radio City Music Hall are both located within the P.D., as is a major section of Broadway. Of course, it’s hard not to find a visual feast when visiting the Plaza District, but your neck might get sore from looking up at all the skyscrapers.
