December's Season of Celebrations and Sharing:  In the Spirit of Giving

In this season of celebrations and sharing, many organizations in our community are coming together to collect food and toys for donation to various charitable causes.

Spirit of Giving by Silvia DukesThe generosity of the people who partipate often goes unnoticed to most of us.  So this post is to recognize just a few of the local efforts that I know about first hand but there are many more:

Member of the Breakfast Car Club of Spring Hill collected toys to donate to Toys for Tots.

The English Car Club of the Nature Coast also collected toys for Toys for Tots at a recent car show.

The Rotary Club of Spring Hill, Florida, collects toys to give to the Hernando County Sheriff's Department.  These toys are given to children who come to the Sheriff's Department for various reasons throughout the year.

To sweeten the holidays, the Rotary Club of Spring Hill, Florida, will also donate 20 holiday pies to the local youth shelter.

During their recent Christmas party, the Hernando Beach Property Owners Association collected nonperishable food items to help stock the food pantry of a local church.

The Hernando Beach Women's Club made a donation to Operation Heart F.E.L.T. Foundation whose mission is to provide nutritious meals to students on weekends and holidays.

The Hernando County Association of Realtors continuously collects food for "Blessings in a Backpack", another local effort to fight weekend hunger in our community and to provide school age children with weekend food.

The list could go on and on!  The bellringers of the Salvation Army who are now outside the doors of your local grocery or department store or in the malls, often are volunteers from other organizations of the community.   They are giving their time to a good cause, so on your way in or out of the store, don't forget to feed their kettle with your donation!

Our community is just one of many communities across the United States where people are giving and helping others and in return are receiving a better place to live for all.

Look around and you will see how much people are giving of themselves - you may see your neighbors, your kids and you may see yourself!

Thank you everyone for participating in the spirit of giving, the true meaning of December's Season of Celebrations and Sharing!

A nice list for your local area, Silvia. I love all the things that are going on right now. The Tarpon Turtle can't be seen from Keystone Road. And, it's on a short road and the only thing there is the restaurant on the right. & condos. It's 1513 Lake Tarpon Ave.

Silvia, I know Toys for Tots was high on my priority list yesterday, and it feels good to be able to provide to children that would not have a present to open on Christmas if we do not step up!

Silvia,

You compiled a nice list of ways in which people can share the holiday spirit with others. Today on the radio the were mentioning that they can't seem to keep enough shoes on the homeless children's feet. Kids are still growing and they have special needs because they are still growing.

Homeless children - would you ever in your lifetime think this would be a problem in our country?

It's new type of Depression/Recession/Jobless problem that doesn't seem to go away....

Thanks for doing your part.

Patricia

Patricia, I had not even thought about the fact that shoes may be needed.  Thank you, that could be a great new cause for some of the organizations I'm involved in.
