Square Deal Building Gets a Needed Facelift

The Square Deal Building located on Highway 101 South in the heart of Crescent City, in my opinion, the greatest source of blight in Del Norte County, has been recently purchased by local businessman, Matt Fearing, who is giving it a much needed facelift.
Fearing anticipates the renovation to be done by June 1st of 2008 and the new retail shops ready for occupancy at that time. Along with the renovations to the building, the new owner is landscaping and putting in a new parking lot.
Fearing is vague on what retailer's will be moving into the renovated building because lease's have not been finalized yet, but says two boutique groceries, a furniture store and restaurateur have shown interest in the wonderfully located Square Deal Building.
The entire interior of the building is getting renovatedwith Fearing providing sheet rocked walls and interior lighting so retailers moving into the building will not have to be overwhelmed with putting everything in. Fearing, owner of Northridge Electric and Front Street Plaza, understands the concerns of small business owners starting out in business or relocating.
I hope everyone in the community will thank Matt Fearing for a job well done in removing the worst blight in Del Norte County.

In other business news, Starbuck's is framed and looking more like a coffee shop everyday. Starbuck's is located on the corner of Cooper and Highway 101 across the street from Home Depot.

That's what's going up there. We drove by not 2 hours ago, and Tom didn't know either.
Sheesh, I feel like an oldtimer--I remember when the funny murals on the Square Deal building were new, and the KMart that was where the Home Depot is now wasn't even here yet--and that came in before WalMart.
