Whoa!  Torrential rains, flooding, high surf, lightning and booming thunder! That's the way it was Saturday night on Oahu. Sleeping soundly until BOOM!  And blinding light in our bedroom that startled us awake. The dog's head was under the bed. Okay. She's cool. And my heart is beating because my husband JUMPED at the BOOM!

It was still raining hard on Sunday and because of the storm we didn't get to cut down the junk in mom's valley in the back of her house. Shucks???

I worked in our office all day yesterday and there wasn't much going on in the way of excitement going on there either because of the continuing on again off again rain.

Here's something you won't hear about on the mainland. Open House's were thriving on Sunday!  During our Monday morning Sales Meeting my Principle Broker ran around with his client's in the rain to Open House's on Sunday and he said ....there was a lot of activity in Mililani! Whaaaa? Only in Hawaii!

Me?  I stayed in the house ALL weekend and blogged while hubby played his Everquest II ;)

It's not sunny today and the air is getting cooler as I type. On last nights news they announced that on Mauna Kea (dormant volcano on the island of Hawaii aka The Big Island) had a blanket of snow after this weekend storm. 14 degrees atop Mauna Kea?  Only in Hawaii!

We have our "seasons" (I guess you'd call it) and this was a long awaited "cooling off" that was very much needed after the recent fires here. We don't get extreme changing seasons because we live in a tropical climate but the temperatures change a little and we do get rain and a snow cap while you folks on the mainland get heavy duty snow storms.

Following are some articles for November 4, 2007 from our local newspaper www.honoluluadvertier.com  regarding the storm:

Sally, Wow, that is some wild weather you had.  The lightening sounds scary and I never would have imagined there are snow caps in Hawaii!  I thought it was warm all year, it's good to know you have seasons there as well.

Sally,

The weather sounds wild, I didn't realize it was like this in Hawaii....I thought only in New England! :)

And while you are having snow Sally, we are having temperatures in the 50s with lots of sunshine!  We could use the  snow, so send it our way will you?  The mountains of Colorado usually have more by this time of year, but it will come...

Sally, I guess everyone usually pictures Hawaii as sunshine all the time.  Beautiful Autumn weather here, though this evening it's getting a bit crisp (in my opinion) -- my wife says it's biting cold!

Joan:  Summer and Holidays.

Carole:  Only way atop that mountain and not enough snow to do anything. They were joking on the news that they wouldn't try skiing...by time they got going they'd hit rock haha! We have a little bit of something.

Suzanne:  This is weird actually. Two years ago we had 40 days and 40 nights of rain. (they joked about it on the news) and then it stopped. Figure that one out.

Joanne:  Funny...not that much snow...a little to have a snow ball fight...that's about it.

Brian:  I most likely would side with your wife on the choice of words. Watch...give us until January and we'll be "freezing" haha.

WooHoo Sally,

Hawaii is the only state in the union I have not yet visited.  Now I know I have to get there before I die!  Thanks for posting!

Sally- That is very strange weather. Hawaii gets the least lightning strikes besides Alaska in the U.S. I learned that when I did a post about lightning. I think it is so cool when Mauna Kea gets snow. Katerina

Katerina: so little land mass so lightening goes across the sky...rarely down.  So it literally lights up the sky!

Sally.... funny, I just read Randy's post in regards to the snow.... sounds cool, because I love snow. As I mentioned to Randy, I know there are mountains in Hawaii, but you would never think to hear snow and Hawaii in the same sentence.  ;o)

SALLY:  I never knew you had snow in Hawaii.  I think that many of us just think about it as a tropical vacation spot, although you've shown it to be much more than that with your great localism posts.

Sally,

I enjoy it when the weather outside is rough like that. It gives me more reason to stay in and get some work done around the house. It's interesting to hear that youactually get snow though. Is that a regular thing?

Tom: Ah....but of course! Kona coffee (we have a couple of others as well) and yes...no matter what...I love it here.

Adam: Thanks for dropping by...yup...every once in a awhile...atop the higher mountains there will be a snow cap.

Teri: Yeah...no matter where we live...there will be ups and downs with weather and/or natural disasters.

Cynthia:  No sense going out and being miserable (men don't have to worry about their hair......usually :)

Andrew: Only seasonal and on the other island!  I got plenty of housework and blogging done! hehe.

Fran: Snow...what's new?  you're funny...haha. Changes are good...but lightning and thunder are spooky.

Thesa: It's on the other island so not to worry....I have a hooded jacket for rain and cold. :)

Jason: Ha...I think you just might be right!

Great weather... a nice opportunity to do some inside things. We have a lot of that too...except the snow, unless you count that white stuff on some folk's heads!

Gary: It's nicer today....not tropical paradise sunny....but enough to go to the swap meet!!!

Tom: Sure...coming right on over! We had fires as well and badly in need of rain...snow...whatever keeps it damp.  We're on higher ground and don't go out in the dark...let alone lightning and thunder :) Thanks!

Sally, wouldn't life be boring without the challenges and madness.  Whoever really remembers when things were just normal.  I bet your Broker will never forget the time he showed all those houses in the rain, how many times has he showed more?  But he won't forget this time.  It's all a lesson or a blessing and I laugh as I mentally write my Only in New York post!  :)  Woo hoo!

 Sally,  Big Island sunset.

My wife and I were there last week (between 10/21 & 10/31) and saw no frost on the pumpkins. We were at all corners and elevations and didn't see any snow but had a Great time. I did note that it rained a bunch on the Big Island when we were back at home here in Crossville Tennessee.  Only one day at Oahu, but did get to eat at Dukes on the beach.
