Car TunesDo you pay attention to the real estate ads you hear while driving around town?  Maybe your lucky enough to have satellite radio so you miss all of the ads that make you turn your head and go HUH?

In this case it was an ad for a real estate company.  No problem.  Promotion is a good thing.  The ad went on to talk about the number of agents in their company and the number of offices they had throughout the area.  Then the ad said..they have plenty of inventory for you to find the home you want.  "They" have plenty of inventory?

Amazing. It appears the other 9000 agents in the Northern Virginia Association of Realtors (not counting our other two local associations) don't have a single listing in the MLS.  THEY all belong to one brokerage.  WOW kudos to them for 7000+ listings and shame on the rest of us for twiddling our thumbs.

Of course if there is enough inventory for every buyer I wonder why we still have multiple offers on properties?  

Maybe it's just me but as a local Realtor® (with listings) the ad seems a bit misleading and could lead a buyer to think the only company with homes to sell is this one.

Well, we can all sell the listings on the MLS.  But, I agree, it might be misleading to the public as a whole.

I guess each firm has its own way of markteting.  I can understand them referring to their clients' current listings without misleading anyone.

Cindy, It's the engineer in me again, but most ads can be dissected in some way that makes it apparent that the wool is being pulled over someone's eyes.  I know we don't have the inventory personally to match everyone's needs, but at least we have access to it....but even then, there are some people that are such a challenge to match up that there may not be a single home that suits them available.

Suzanne-it was the wording of the ad and the "they" have enough inventory.  It's picky but seems misleading.

Jeff-I have no idea what their brokerage inventory is but I know it isn't all 7000+ homes in our MLS.

Tammie-I'm sure it isn't a violation of any advertising rules and the average consumer would have no idea that that brokerage doesn't have a monopoly on the MLS in our area.

Rob-it goes along with the ads that say we have homes to sell starting at $$$ when there isn't anything even close to that price in our area.

Bliz-if there was a home for every buyer there wouldn't be homes that languish for years and wouldn't be the other extreme muliple offers on another.  The news that "they" have enough inventory for every buyer is a bit misleading.
