I was in a bank the other day, (one of the Big 4), across its electronic banner, (behind the clerk) read:
"IT IS BETTER TO GIVE & RECEIVE”.
Yes the ampersand was bigger and bolder and the message was clear.
Friends, this season I want to be truthfully, brutally honest. Twenty eight years ago I was diagnosed with a terminal disease. In 1985 I was told AIDS would take my life within a couple of years. I watched my partner and friends struggle with the ugly, torturous way AIDS snuffed out their lives.
My journey toward death shadowed my partner as one opportunistic infection after another ravaged my body. After fighting for my life in dozens of Urgent Care visits and long arduous stays in the hospital, I was also diagnosed with Cancer. Five years of battling Cancer and twenty-eight years of living with AIDS has brought me to the time in my life when I must challenge this “Give & Receive” Bull Shit.
My life is full, beyond full, my life is fantastic! “I love you”, “have a wonderful day”, “enjoy your day, thank you for being so kind and helpful”, “I can’t wait to hold you, kiss you”, “I love you more today than yesterday”, “I love you more than the stars in the sky” are words I hear, given to me every day. These are packages wrapped up and delivered to me unconditionally. My eyes melt and fill with tears, my face softens, my thoughts are full of wonderment. This happens several times each day. My life is wonderful, and will always be wonderful.
Seize this “season”, grasp this moment, this day. Don’t reach down into your purse or wallet. Reach into your soul, search the corners, the dark pockets and allow the greatest gift you can ever give be given. YOU. Yes you are the gift that those you love want to enjoy, and play with. You don’t need batteries, you will keep on going, and as long as you choose to give, everyone will enjoy your life, even you.
I love my life! I love the challenges, the accomplishments. I have searched and drugged through the failures and disappointments and see goodness in it all. I am not going to tell you it is better to give & receive. I am not going to tell you do anything. I am going to tell you that you are the greatest gift, and you know who to give yourself to and how to give of yourself.
So try just giving away all that you are...
Living Happy Everyday,
Ron
